Will Smith v Chris Rock

It’s just comedy though, if someone can’t take a bit of a joke they probably shouldn’t leave the house

Go to any comedy show and you would get much worse if you were sat in the first few rows
If you need to make a joke at the expense of someone's illness, then you shouldn't be a comedian.

The joke wasn't funny, in fact it was bad taste and Chris Rock should be ashamed of himself.

I've been to plenty of comedy gigs and I've seen on plenty occasions the audience get the **** ripped out of them, however, I don't seem to remember ever seeing someone's illness being the expense of the joke.

Aye and more people watch Coronation St and Eastenders than anything else but you wouldnt say that was better tv just because they top the ratings.

There are awards for the most popular films. TV Times Awards etc. My point is that whilst I wouldnt have a clue what happened in the 7th movie of the Spiderman franchise for example because they are pretty much all the same, the film Belfast, even if its not your cup of tea, was brilliantly made and thought provoking and will have a lasting legacy on the industry in years to come.
How would you know if you haven't seen them? Because they most definetly aren't the same.

Actually I have seen most of the spiderman films ( 3 Toby Maguire ones, the 2 Garfield ones and a couple of the Tom Holland ones) and I would say they are all pretty much follow a similar pattern. You may disagree but as Festa rightly says it’s all about opinion.

It's worth noting that on insta Jada Pinkett-smith joked that she didn't want people to think she'd had a brain op....kinda insensitive to people who've had a brain op.

Apparently Chris Rock has made jokes about her before, I think this is rather an issue about who made the joke rather than the joke itself.

You misunderstood. I have seen them but because they all folllow a similar theme they tend to blur into each other. For example was it Spiderman 2 or Spiderman 3 where our superhero turned bad before becoming good again, or which one was it where he saved Kirsten Dunst from certain death falling off some bridge or skyscraper.

Smith hasn't reacted very well, walking on stage was the wrong thing to do, its set a bad example and made him look daft.

However one thing I will say is that comics walk a fine line when they push the boundaries on what is and isn't offensive.

I'm no snowflake but words hurt people and sooner or later you're going to get the wrong person on the wrong day and then you're asking for trouble.

I used to play football and we regularly had 20 young lads taking the **** out of each other but it still doesn't take much to get someone going too far then you've got 2 lads rolling about on the floor.

the last superhero film I saw had Christopher Reeve starring, and I was 10. I really don't see the attraction for adults in such make believe nonsense.

You need to read into the history of their relationship, you might then think that the positions are reversed.
Yeah I was thinking that. Interesting take from Glover given what has happened in their relationship in the past but maybe that's why? He feels he needs to take back control after being a cuckold?

But formulaic? Not remotely. I think they've done an incredible job in terms of ambition and trying new things.
I agree they are not formulaic, maybe over-exposed would be a better description and the problem with it being part of the same universe is that one bad movie can create negativity for the whole brand

Smith could've done far more damage to Chris Rock by saying something like "I don't think making fun of people's conditions/disabilities etc is very funny" than he did by slapping him. Sure, the slap was probably fairly satisfying but it leaves Chris Rock looking like the victim.

movies probably aren't for you then, because 99% of what is on the silver screen is make believe 'nonsense'

He laughed at the joke at first then seconds later he was on the stage, expect it was more about image than actually being offended

Correct.

I think it was his wife's reaction that was the trigger. He appeared to laugh at the joke, then turned to his wife Jada, saw that she wasn't amused, and then felt like he had to react and do something to compensate for himself laughing initially.

Says a lot for Will Smith if he needs to reply with violence.
