Will Smith v Chris Rock

movies probably aren't for you then, because 99% of what is on the silver screen is make believe 'nonsense'
99% is a bit of an exaggeration. 75% more like. Most of the films that won last night were films that wouldn’t fall into that category.

Eyes of Tammy Fae, Living with the Ricardo, King Richard, Belfast, Coda we’re all films based on or a reflection of true to life stories.

Actually I am looking forward to seeing The Phantom of the Open next week. It’s the story of Maurice Flitcroft who blagged his way into the open qualifying event of 1976 and shot a 49 over par 121. Was henceforth known as the Royal and Ancient rabbit. Mark Rylance plays Maurice.

dramatisations are far from real life, at their worst they aren't even close e.g. Titanic and Pearl Harbour. There are more dramatisations of real people these days, but Hollywood generally mullers the,

I agree they are not formulaic, maybe over-exposed would be a better description and the problem with it being part of the same universe is that one bad movie can create negativity for the whole brand

Yeah, can get that people who aren't interested are fed up hearing about it. There are a lot of them and you'd think at some point it'll start to grow stale. I'm certainly not as interested in them as I used to be.

Mind that might have something to do with now having two boys under 5, so leisure time is severely curtailed and Paw Patrol is all I'm allowed to watch these days.

Yes but they (films I listed) arent make believe nonsense either. - which was my point. Oh and I agree about the Titanic and Pearl Harbour ( and box office successes by the way) . Complete fantasy and drivel but none of the films I mention are THAT bad.

I think it's healthy that we get some real life stories that try and stay true, some that are based on a true story (loosely) and some completion fiction. It's all story telling one way or another and there are only 7 stories anyway. A real life story is still just a version of something that's already been written in fiction in it's broadest sense.

Flitcroft - yes I remember him at the time. Amusing to think his fellow entrants were asking for their entry fees back because he supposedly ruined their rounds too.

So will Smithy be questioned by the police, as basically he assaulted someone in front of millions of witnesses, as said you can’t just resort to violence if you are offended by somebody, even if they go through the motions and he ends up with a police caution??

It's probably a bit of built up anger about all the public stick he's had about his wife's 'affair' (although apparently on a break like Ross and Rachel 😂).

A few people have made public comments about his family.

Chris Rock was out of order, he made a personal joke about a mans wife in front of her that was simply not funny. Did Smith slap him rather than punch him, I’m not sure but either way it was an assault. Violence is never the answer, but Smith’s reaction was totally understandable. Several ego’s will be hurting, but I think inside people’s heads there will be many thinking Smith‘s reaction was acceptable.
Spot on mate

The joke, regardless of whether you think it's funny in its own right, was in poor taste - people are talking about Gervais, but he doesn't take the **** out of people for something they can't control, he makes jokes about people for the things they did (for example Mel Gibsons drunken racist rants, Caitlyn Jenner killing someone in a car accident, and so on...). Regardless of whether you think it was funny or not, he is punching up at the people he's joking about. Chris Rock was punching down onto someone about something that is very personal and sensitive to them specifically, that they have no control over. The topic could have been sex, gender, race, etc...

I think if Will Smith could have a do-over then he wouldn't do that again. But I don't blame him for being angry or upset.

I think will smith is an odd ball, looking at his wife on the red carpet before the show started she looked in quite a state then, very timid and subservient to Smith. I wouldn't be surprised at all to hear there are control issues and maybe even DV within that relationship.
Bit drastic to throw around DV without any proof based on how they look on the red carpet

Some leap that. I think if he's got issues with control it probably stems from the fact he doesn't really want an open relationship but has to contend with one to keep his wife.

I'd recommend his audiobook to anyone.
