Will Smith v Chris Rock

Did I just see what I think I saw at the Oscars. Chris Rock just made some joke about Jada Smiths bald head, and Will Smith just walked on stage and slapped him. Is there beef between them previously?
Btw the editing by sky between adverts has been terrible.

Edit....
Just read that she has alopecia. I didn't realize, thought it was a fashion choice or for a role. Not something to crack a joke about then.

just saw the report, not seen the footage, i'm sure that will be on the 'big' news re Oscars.. plus all the throw away fashion disasters :-D

I thought the slap looked a bit off but the way he looked and was breathing afterwards, when telling Rock to ‘keep my wife’s name out of your F***ing mouth!’ looked pretty genuine. Think Chris Rock’s reaction was pretty genuine too.
Really poor form from Rock to make a joke out of somebody’s health conditions on such a big stage.

Chris Rock was out of order, he made a personal joke about a mans wife in front of her that was simply not funny. Did Smith slap him rather than punch him, I’m not sure but either way it was an assault. Violence is never the answer, but Smith’s reaction was totally understandable. Several ego’s will be hurting, but I think inside people’s heads there will be many thinking Smith‘s reaction was acceptable.

The whole Hollywood event is a farce but that’s assault and we spend time telling kids you can’t slap people then wham , the Oscar winner goes and does it live .

Pa how bad were the movies once again nominated

Mock someone's significant others health condition and expect a slap, let alone in front of a global audience and your peers. Think he's been pushed enough RE: his wife. 🤷‍♂️

The cynic in me wonders if its staged to build him some credibility up after he's been widely mocked for the fact his wife sleeps with other guys and he just sucks it up.

Those saying you just can't do that etc. I'd have to disagree, violence isn't the answer but we don't live in a perfect world and if you spout off not everyone is going to have a reasoned debate with you over it.

One of the greatest nights of Will Smith's life, and the organisers stick him and his wife on the front row so they can pay someone to slag her off right in her face, and then they just expect them both to sit there and take it.

Disagree. Have you seen all the films nominated ?

Belfast was excellent. Dune was spectacular (if not my kind of film), Coda was a beautifully made film and King Richard was very entertaining. I didn’t like Power of the Dog although could See why the performances were heralded. I watched the Eyes of Tammy Fae a fascinating tale of corruption and at Home with the Ricardo, a film about Lucille Ball and possible communist links lwas also interesting. It wasn’t bad.

I have seen some of them admittedly not all. I guess the Oscar’s is becoming increasingly awarding to films most people won’t bother watching .

Also disagree. Im not sure which films you would have categorised as nominees but if it goes down to box office success then the bloody Marvel franchise films would walk off with them all and how bad would that have been ?

As for the Will Smith incident there has become a trend in recent award ceremony years for the presenters to shock and take the mick out of the acting fraternity. That was started by Ricky Gervais. Gervais knew where the line could be drawn though. Rock wasn’t smart enough to do the same.
