Will Smith v Chris Rock

I go to a lot of live comedy, and I've had the **** ripped out of me on many occasions. I've never seen a comic make such a lazy cheap shot about a medical condition before, and if they tried that in a small comedy club then I can assure you they'd get more than an open-handed slap.
Was gonna say, I've seen Gervais poke fun at Scorseses height and rinse celebs for being self centred, tax dodgers, friends of disgraced individuals etc. Never seen him or many others openly mock someone's medical condition.

Might not have been the right place or time but mouth off about someone's wife and don't be surprised when they give you a slap.

He essentially risked his award over it assuming it wasn't a stunt.

People making judgments about her screwing other guys etc., that's an aspect of their relationship that she's decided she wants and he's despite clearly struggling with it, had to accept to stay with her. Doesn't mean other people can use his wife's medical issues for cheap laughs.

The vast majority of partners would be very irritated/upset/furious about such a joke at their partner's expense.
Will Smith had a lot of options and he chose the absolute worst.
He could have stayed silent, looked disgusted, then addressed it in the speech he knew he was going to shortly make.
He could have said nothing at all on the evening and sought Chris Rock privately.
He could even have shouted out a put down that would have made the point more forcibly.
He could even have walked to the stage to make the point.
But to charge on stage and attack Rock was ridiculous. To then follow that up with his ranting was just bizarre.

All this after he had demonstrably laughed at Rock's limp joke.

It beggars belief that people are saying its understandable.
Chris Rock made a tasteless remark, but Smith's response was an assault.
The episode will have done neither of them any good and Smith a lot of damage.

Not sure they know if they are going to win. Javier Bardem and Benedict Cumberbatch looked pretty tense during the announcement.

I guess nobody has seen Ricky Gervais' retweet about alopecia from The Office since the ceremony. Pretty much poking at Smith.

Actually I am looking forward to seeing The Phantom of the Open next week. It’s the story of Maurice Flitcroft who blagged his way into the open qualifying event of 1976 and shot a 49 over par 121. Was henceforth known as the Royal and Ancient rabbit. Mark Rylance plays Maurice.
You'll enjoy it. I went to see it today, even though I can't stand the game it was a well spent couple of hours.
Although I'm old enough I can't recall this story, probably due to the fact I have the same thoughts about golf as Mark Twain.

I think will smith is an odd ball, looking at his wife on the red carpet before the show started she looked in quite a state then, very timid and subservient to Smith. I wouldn't be surprised at all to hear there are control issues and maybe even DV within that relationship.
Where on earth do people get this crap from 🤣

Point 1: how was Smith allowed to just walk onto the stage and assault someone
Point 2: why wasn’t he removed from the building following the assault
You have to question the security in place at these events.

He could have had a knife or anything

If true
Its wrong for fans to run on the pitch yet he can strool up & physically attack another petson, sit down & they shout offensive language at him, he xame across as nothing but a chavy hooligan

He's ruined his moment and definitely wouldn't do it again if he had a rewind.

I've not seen an artical about him actually winning an Oscar. Infact some are saying he should be stripped of it.

Hands up all those guys who have got so angry with another guy they have slapped them - I’m no fighter but I expect a punch is the weapon of choice.
That along with the fact it was so James Bond the old open palm very exaggerated movement like he was taking it from his movie fight training.

Added to that his speech seemed to cover the situation quite eloquently only minutes later.

The only bit I don’t get is the angry swearing - that puts a bit of doubt in my mind taht it may not have been staged.

Very bizarre indeed!

Seriously? The favourite for the Best Actor award is going to turn up at the Oscars with a knife?

Seriously though, before you spill your cornflakes all over the table it was a bit tongue in cheek, I was actually referring to quotes about every young kid running on the pitch could be armed with a knife, 🤔👍

Actually I have seen most of the spiderman films ( 3 Toby Maguire ones, the 2 Garfield ones and a couple of the Tom Holland ones) and I would say they are all pretty much follow a similar pattern. You may disagree but as Festa rightly says it’s all about opinion.
Of course all the Spiderman films will be similar to each other.

But the Marvel movies are more than just Spiderman films which are very different to Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther etc.
The Marvel universe incorporates a lot of different styles and storylines with overlapping arcs and character development.
To say they just just use the formula Good v Evil is a bit simplistic as well. Most films do. To some extent there is nearly always a goodie and a baddie.
Also, the good v evil line is sometimes a bit blurred in the Marvel films.

Well you haven't quoted anything about kids running on the pitch, nor does it read as tongue in cheek, so forgive me for missing the context of your comment as it's far from clear that's what you meant.
