Watmore AND Akpom leaving

Good luck to both Watmore a d Akpom if they are to leave but if they are in the squad or starting on Saturday, I will give my full support and hope they go out on high scoring a couple to beat the baggies.
Can you play if you don't have a squad number (Akpom)? Genuine question.

How much money can make/save by selling Watmore. I would have thought not much to lose by keeping him.
Exactly. Considering his injuries in the past, he's rarely been injured when here and never given anything other than 100%. I think we've managed him (his fitness) well and he's been good in rotation. He surely can't be expecting to go somewhere and start every game, as he won't physically be able to.

This puts me in mind of an interview with Sven Goran Eriksson, it might’ve been on Graham Hunter’s podcast a few years back. He basically said he went into Lazio and realised he need to completely change the mentality in the dressing room, which meant getting rid of players you wouldn’t have expected to be sold. The main player was Beppe Signori.

Eriksson said that Signori, and a few others, had a mentality that the club couldn’t or wouldn’t win anything “because we are Lazio, we are unlucky,” etc. He said you can’t have that attitude and that those players needed to be sold. You need to have a winning mentality. Selling Signori nearly caused a riot but he was proven right.

Maybe there’s a chance Wilder thinks some of our players are too comfortable. When he talks about attitude over ability, it doesn’t mean the ability aspect isn’t important. It means it’s worth nothing if the attitude and mentality isn’t right. The players had a big opportunity in the final month of last season and didn’t take it. They’ll inevitably pay the price for that and Wilder will look to sign players who produce what he wants.

The club has been treading water for years. Maybe it needs this spell of freshening up, a bit of a cultural reboot. It’s quite exciting TBH.

I'm stunned about Watmore. I simply can't believe it's true? He's the most 'Wilder' forward we have.

At the very least an absolute handful off the bench. I know he's only got 60 or so mins in him from the start. Yet covers so much ground in that start.

I can only asume he's been told he's not needed. That or he's only got 1 year left and maybe feels he will now need a move (I doubt he's on much wage wise).

I'd genuinely be more gutted about him leaving that Tav. He's my favourite player (if a 44 year old bloke can have a favourite player😂)

Wonder if he’s involved in any player deal . He’d certainly do a job for hull .
Personally I thought it was his body wasn’t up to a full 90min and maybe that’s why he’s off

As long as you haven't gone to the extent of having a signed poster of him on your bedroom wall then it's fine 😉

I too will be disappointed to see him leave. He's a great option to bring off the bench and press defenders with tired legs. Considering Wilder likes to rotate the strikers during matches it's strange if it's a case of Wilder wanting to move him on, but could be that Watmore is seeking first-team football.

Bit of moneyball in it too. If Sunderland will pay 2m for him and we got him naught, it's great on the FFP, plus of course another 400 k wages removed, so 2.4m to reinvest in high quality prem players

My brother has just told me that Sky this pm were saying Fulham will not loan Muniz - they want a sale.
Ideally you'd expect Muniz would be a bit cheaper this year rather than last summer as he hardly played for Fulham.
(Yes I know they have Mitrovic).
But they gambled on this guy being a superstar and it hasn't worked.
What did they pay? £6m?
We should surely pay only half this figure?

It doesn't seem to work this way - especially for us
Ashley Fletcher had a nightmare at West Ham......only for us to pop up and hand over £7m

Here's a list of transfers in the championship. 12 teams have bought fewer players in than us. Saturday's opponents have only brought in three.

I mean all this hoo hah about Brexit and here's something that is a fault of the Europeans and no one blames them. :D

We tried moving the deadline forward to the start of August and it didn't take. It was moved back to September because clubs didn't want European teams picking off their players without being able to sign replacements.

Nope no poster 😂. To be fair I absolutely hammered him on here when we signed him (none scoring and injury prone etc). I hold my hands up... I got him wrong.

I do have a picture from the gazette of Hendrie scoring the last goal at AP in the downstairs toilet. It's the only Boro memorabilia I'm allowed on display. I do feel slightly bad that his limited edition print is on the toilet wall lol.

We need a bit of a blend of ages in attack - to me having 4 forwards all with limited experience is not ideal. I know I said 33 was past your peak for a forward, but at the other extreme I don't want all the forwards under 24. Th best age range is 24 to 30.

Yes was thinking about this also. Having diff ages allows you to invest in youth, but have a pathway to first choice player, and then on to be sold for big money.

Finch (17) -> Kavanagh (19) --> Coburn (20) --> Hoppe (21) --> Forss (23) --> xxxx(25) --> yyyy(27)
