Watmore AND Akpom leaving

Some turnover , I expected Akpom to leave , Watmore is a shock .
I really like Watmore, and he's a cult figure for his solid work for us, but it doesn't surprise me, in fact I mentioned he might be sold a few weeks ago when there were talks of Wilder saying there might be some surprise sales, him and McNair were the ones I thought about.

Watmore is a 60 min player, totally honest, scores a few goals but he's not prolfic enough, not consistent enough, and lacks the physicality needed. If he goes, I will always have an eye on what he is upto, he's a good pro and very likeable guy.

Cant blame watmore after being pushed aside for arron connolly last season, i would have been well and truly peeved off with wilder for that. Watmore is a very intelligent bloke probably knows his game time is going to be limited, can only wish him well.
I'm not sure he's wanting to go particularly, more that he needs to go for game time. Not sure he's the type to be peeved off either, he got his career back on track here, had a good time, got some decent memories, but moving on is all part of the game, and he knows that.

and the 20 before that where he was missed out to a fat pisssdd up nobody called Connolly

Connolly only played 19 games for us, 1,185 minutes.

In that same time period, Watmore managed 20 games, 841 minutes.

Watmore also has chronic injuries and pain to contend with that limits how much he can play.

I feel the same about Watmore. Good player but not really a striker. Incredible work rate and I would keep him as a player to bring on late in games when we are winning to keep the pressure on, that's when he thrives. My guess is he doesn't just want to be an impact sub with limited minutes and he could get more regular game time elsewhere. If we could get someone with his work rate that could also be relied on to take the crucial chances then it is obviously an upgrade.

I also thought that we changed the way we attacked with him in the side more than anyone else. Seems like his natural instinct is to drift wide and chase everything so we didn't always have the numbers in the box when he did that. With 2 attacking wing backs now we are going to need our forwards to be targets rather than playmakers.

When Wilder gave that interview at the end of the season and said we’d see the extent of the changes, I thought this sounds radical. We then basically released those out of contract and to me it felt like a damp squib. Looks like it is going to be radical after all if this is true. To be fair, I cant say that I have seen anything in Akpoms displays that makes me think he is going to be better than what we have had in the recent past. Watmore is different in that his running when he comes on as a sub does seem to cause problems. I like to watch him but I was listening to Bernie Slavens podcast last year and he said it would be a nightmare trying to partner with Watmore as he just runs all over the place. Maybe Wilder sees it this way too. Weren’t there rumours of Akpom to Aberdeen earlier in the window?

Played 90 minutes quite a lot despite experts in here saying he can only play 70.
He started 23 games and played the full 90 just once. Facts are important.

He did last over 80 mins another 5 times. So fails to last 80+ mins in about 75% of his starts.

His average game time when starting is 72mins.
