Watmore AND Akpom leaving

I have to go on record and say I will probably shed tears when Duncan leaves...☺️.he just is like the faithful Jack Russell who you could send out to savage the neighbours for 20 minutes when they're pis%ig you off....but he would never win crufts....
I would love to have a beer with him though....he is a gentleman thoughtful intelligent and classy
Good luck Duncan wherever you may go

Watmore and his only 70 min…
Nothing wrong with that defensively at least. It’d be next to impossible for anyone to apply that kind of doggedness over full 90 min.

I think Watmore is great but his injuries I guess carry a risk even though they haven't massively materialised for us, and there is potential of him not playing a full game. We also then have Uche who wont also last a full game due to size. It seems like you're limiting your options by having players that cant last a whole game, no matter how good they are. Plus Watmore probably deserves more guaranteed football than we can probably give him if we are going out for another 2 strikers and we have Coburn waiting in the wings

I would love to see watmore play as a 10 obviously wont happen in this team. When he has time hes a great finisher not so much when hes rushed.

Another player who gives his all. He has a weird effect on me where I really care about him. Hes been through a lot and he gives us absolutely everything. I would love him to stay. I think a few easy chances he missed last season might go against him.

Its mad because hes capable of some stunning finishes.

Signing players, especially strikers, is such a massive gamble, I hope that come midway through the season we look on at the strikers we've brought in as adequate replacements for a true professional that Duncan Watmore has been since Neil Warnock brought him to our football club

For me he's a hard act to folow

I’ll be gutted to see Watmore go. Nobody has been more committed to the cause or worked
harder on the pitch, since the days of Gorgeous George and Grant. He’s scored some absolute beauties while here. I wish him nothing but the absolute best if he does move on.

Ultimate professional is probably the smallest of compliments. He seems like a great genuine lad who deserves a great rest of his career.

When Wilder gave that interview at the end of the season and said we’d see the extent of the changes, I thought this sounds radical. We then basically released those out of contract and to me it felt like a damp squib. Looks like it is going to be radical after all if this is true. To be fair, I cant say that I have seen anything in Akpoms displays that makes me think he is going to be better than what we have had in the recent past. Watmore is different in that his running when he comes on as a sub does seem to cause problems. I like to watch him but I was listening to Bernie Slavens podcast last year and he said it would be a nightmare trying to partner with Watmore as he just runs all over the place. Maybe Wilder sees it this way too. Weren’t there rumours of Akpom to Aberdeen earlier in the window?
What does Bernie know, he clearly wasn't watching Watmore last season if that's his view. The only time our other strikers were able to hold up or onto the ball was when watmore opened up the space for them with his tireless and intelligent running. He doesn't just run about aimlessly.

You think some of the *****, lazy, money grabbing players we have had and he is probably on a low wage in comparison. He put in more of shift in one game than britt did in 20 games. I'll certainly follow his career if he leaves.

I wonder without the injuries would he have been a better all round player, especially coming through in that terrible mackem era.

Watmore is the only one that has some history of scoring double figures so I would expect the likes of Armstrong to be coming or the likes before he goes

He's scored double figures once in his career, when he scored 14 goals during a season in the 6th tier of English football at the age of 18/19.

Obviously that's partly because he's a winger that we've converted to a striker out of necessity, but Watmore has never been prolific.

I'd personally sooner keep Watmore aa our option from the bench than sign some young gamble on more money, but at the same time, Watmore isn't really a striker.
