Middlesbrough on rhine was the soundbite used
It was as cringeworthy then as it is now. Came across as Little Englander, yes you need a core of the club that is local, you need a path for locals to the club. But let's be honest would Felix have been less caring of our club, our local culture?

Of the 9 permanent managers he has appointed since that statement, the only one to get a promotion was Spanish and the one with the worst record almost relegating us to League One was a Boro lad. It's almost like limiting yourself to locals is a terrible idea.

when it's public assets being discussed, then surely it's everyone's business even if you can't be chewed with it.
Maybe, but I have to draw the line somewhere. I don't need to be party to every discussion about public assets around the country.

Though I don't think it is the public assets side of the discussion that is of interest here anyway.

Yet a few lines earlier...

On your high horse it would seem.

Context is everything.
Behave yourself, be more honest, I'm not judging his involvement levels with the locals who are in this grift because the facts are not public domain.......I will judge what he has said because it's terrible and is now thanks to private eye in the public domain. These are two distinct things events and not linked, they show consistency, work of the facts and evidence.

So you are judging then

Ok
I'll judge on facts, not on the unknown. All humans judge everyone. Don't pretend you don't judge.....it's what you are doing now. It's almost like you think you are the only human on the planet that doesn't judge....how high is THAT horse?!

Good reading but, if it wasn’t for Gibbo this thread would not be here. MFC was liquidated. The Club was gone. The Riverside would not be here. The League Cup win. Eindhoven etc. Always remember that before you moan about a few, allegedly, swear words and threats. As somebody said, roll on the close season. (y)

I don't think anyone is doubting the amazing work Gibson has done and continues to do for MFC.

The thread started because of his apparent bullying approach towards an excellent local business (which employs a lot of people in well paid jobs) and the really good people who run that business. I have first hand experience of dealing with two of the people mentioned from PD Ports. Both are brilliant people who genuinely want to bring as many jobs and prosperity to Teesside as possible. I can guarantee both would not talk to anyone the way Gibson appears to have to them.

Think things have become skewed a bit here.

The main issue was Gibson's utter lack of professionalism in a business meeting which shocked many. Not a dig at his ownership, or what he did for the club in 1986.

Over the past few years he's seldom heard from, but when he does pop his head up it's because he's got a nark on with someone/ something - Mel Morris, PDP etc.

He's changed a lot in 10-15 years, not for the better. Is certainly not coming across as "one of our own" the self made man fighting for the Teesside people. His actions are of a 2019 Tory MP which is not a good look.

I'm not doubting his commitment to Boro, or what he does for the club. Do I want him to sell up and stand aside? No. But I can be disappointed that he has chosen to back grifters that have seen Teessport as a means to get a few people stinking rich with no accountability.

30 years ago he would have been at the front shouting AT them, not jumping into bed (at some point) with them.

Exactly this.

Embarrassing tinpot behaviour from Gibson and not for the first time in recent years.

Undoubtedly his people will be “having a word” soon about this thread.

The thing is, PD Ports employs (and has done for many years) loads of local people in actual well paid jobs, which is not the same as the pie-in-the-sky tens of thousands of theoretical jobs that Ben Houchen keeps banging on about.

Of course he's going to blame nasty PD Ports for obstructing his dream (and that's all it is, a dream, a fantasy.)

Indeed. PDP give young people a chance through apprenciteships and graduate schemes, support local causes and have people who have worked at Teesport and Hartlepool Dock their whole careers earning a good salary. They are not an Amazon warehouse where people are tracked and earn pretty low salaries.

PD also own loads of land from the days of the Tees and Hartlepool Port Authority. They will be making sure Teesworks is not trying to screw them over on it. There's nothing wrong with that.

There is for the Bully boys apparently!

Plenty of good well mannered and empathic respectful rich people, they’re not all like that
The term millionaire is getting a bit dated now with so many with assets over £1m - probably a few people on here have pension funds in excess of a million I dare say. I agree it has nothing to do with wealth it’s the power that gets into their heads. Gibson has always had a nasty streak in him and this is sadly unsurprising to me except for the language he allegedly employs which is frankly disgusting. Fair play for the commission for not reacting.

On your first point, I am on record of doubting some of the things he has done and continues to do for Middlesbrough football club. I wont be a hypocrite. His running of Middlesbrough football club between 2006 - 2021 has been questionable, his motives aren’t, his funding never has been, his decisions haven’t always turned out to have been of the highest order though when it comes to recruitment of managers and playing staff during that period. I am supportive of all he tries to do and I believe his passion still burns, but lets not pretend he is amazing. He is an owner chairman who wants the best for his club to be successful within the funding he is willing to give, which understandably is limited. I am absolutely fine and supportive with that, but nobody is above criticism either, he is not a god like figure, Looking back, amazing is not a word I’d use and lest we forget, we are one of the most expensive clubs to follow In our league.

That however is not the point of the thread, I just felt the need to be honest given your post. His words in that meeting, if true, are not totally surprising to me, I have experienced similar from the odd wealthy, privileged, self made type before, thankfully most people are professional in high office, but as we especially see in politics, some are oblivious to their own behaviours and the trappings of wealth and power can change people over time. Generally, some people who have grafted the hard way and come from nothing to become successful will have a hard nosed, ruthless streak, but there are lines in the sand that should never be acceptable to cross.

Yup. I’m a bit baffled by others being shocked by this, you only have to look at his ticket prices to realise he doesn’t give a toss about the people of Teesside, he’s a full blown Tory.
