Those in the know have known about this for years, so it's good to see it finally exposed in a national publication!

The deputy mayor under Preston was Mieka Smiles, is an ex senior gazette reporter, also was invited on the new MDC personally by Houchen:
Simon Clarke MP employs the ex senior local democracy reporter for the Gazette as an official PR guy.
And a Tory leader of North Yorkshire council was also a recent Gazette reporter even after he was elected as a councillor.

Jesus, how deep does the rabbit hole go?

Mieka Smiles is an absolute t*t and huge Tory sycophant, too

He was the last editor of the Gazette - as in there is only a handful of reporters now, like 5. No editor, no photographer.

'Senior' and 'Reporter' are doing some heavy lifting in your post!

"Reporters" is pushing it - observing from afar all I see is a few semi-illiterate kids copying down Social Media posts (and doing that badly)

If that is a true reflection of Gibson's involvement in the meeting then he comes across as an absolute d*ck. It's like when someone's trying to sound hard and they've practiced in the mirror, but when it comes out, it comes out all wrong. A while ago Houchen tried to force PD Ports to sell up cheaply to TVDC. He failed, and now we have the unedifying sight of Gibson trying to bully them.

Do they know who they are taking on? They should do. PD are owned by Brookfield Corporation, one of the world's largest investment management companies with over US$725 billion of assets under management in 2022, with headquarters in Toronto and corporate offices in New York City, London, São Paulo, Mumbai, Shanghai, Dubai, and Sydney.

Brookfield Corporation HQ, Toronto.

They won't exactly be quaking in their boots at Gibson losing his rag but if other companies are observing what's going on at Teesworks they may think twice about bringing jobs here. If the cost of these idiots larging it is loss of investment then I hope they can live with that.
