ICC Cricket World Cup Starts at 9.30 am This Morning

As mentioned above, they're retiring after this, their last big one. Some of them shouldn't have been selected due to either injury, poor form.or track record abroad. I think we became a little blasé after our world cup win, we're the best, turn up and it's ours.
You had no right to feel blasé. One home tournament win which was won on a tied match and you can go into the next tournament and think it’s a breeze?. Nope nothing to do with blasé. Just not good enough in these conditions. Poor bowlers, batting application missing and poor leadership.

Now England cant progress to the semis is interest going to drop off? I can’t see many tuning into Afghanistan v Sri Lanka today.

You're right about poor batters and bowlers but for me we took the same old faces who have been hit and miss for some time now. We took Bairstow who hasn't been in form since his injury and Stokes who is still injured. We took Woakes who has a poor track record away from home. When did Buttler last have a decent run?

I listen to the commentators and they're talking about overplaying Wood. If a bowler is too delicate to be capable of 10 overs a week why is he there?

Is English cricket in such a state that these are the current best?

may not have had any right to feel blasé but we did. We somehow won the T20 WC last year which meant we felt we were too dogs at white ball cricket and as such felt all we have to do is put the opposition and we’ll chase it down. Conditions and opposition never came in to the reckoning that’s why we are going home and why we could we’ll finish bottom.

I think it’s more that the players are all over 30 and have been figured out in this format. Buttler used to be one of the world’s most destructive batsmen but I can’t remember the last time he took a team apart in an ODI. His form has suffered with captaincy, a tale as old as time. Malan has a fantastic record but hasn’t often done it on the biggest of stages. We haven’t really bowled well either.

I repeat that team wasn't blase. it was under prepared, out of form, badly led and lacking in confidence.

I think we were under prepared and took our eye of the ODI ball, interesting stats that not only have we played less than half the ODIs between 2019 and 2023 than 2015 and 2019, but in around half the games we've played so called second string players - indeed some of those players; Duckett, Salt, Carse etc have performed well, but as soon as it came to picking the World Cup squad we revert to the old guard who haven't played 50 over cricket much. Thinking probably muddied by winning the T20 World Cup last year - which though always referred to as white ball (with ODI) requires a different mind set, particularly in India on slower pitches.

I will be supporting ABI (Anyone But India). Australia v New Zealand and South Africa v Pakistan games were really enjoyable. Would be nice to see New Zealand finally get the trophy and if they can't I'll hope for Pakistan or South Africa.

The problem is our top players just dont plsy any 50 over cricket thanks to the hundred. With the exception of malan they dont seem to be able to adjust from 20 overs to 50 batting, and the bowlers are used to 4 overs rather than 10.
Greed has got us where we are

The Aussies have a banker still to come which will also help their run rate considerably.

The Semi finals will be the teams who are already in the top 4 now.
