From the outside looking in we are an absolute shambles

McGree will turn out to be a better player for us than Tav.
Irons in the fire, you’ll see.
We have strengthened in most areas, I’m not sure as a club we could afford to turn down £12m for Tav when you consider we need to bring a few more in.

Your claim was that we won't spend a 1/4 of the circa 42m that we will have FFP headroom. Not that will we shouldn't spend big on 1 player.

Yes spending more than 10m in total is a lot for a champ side (without or without payments). But, the side has been chronically under invested in for some time. The idea that we will sell two players for 27m, and barely spend anything is a sure fire way to a depressing future.

Gibson has always made money available, and I don't think he will say, less than £10m CW, that's your lot, because it would be totally out of character with what he has done for 30 years now.
Maybe he won't allow a 12m striker, but he might allow 3x 7m strikers.

We spent 7.5m in total last season without any sales income, so we will clearly spend more than 10m
I think 7m would be a sensible ceiling per transfer

It would, unless there is an absolute star, I mean if you had a 20 year old Ronaldo and he was 9m, you'd have to roll the dice.

I'm also nervous about spending 12m on Gyokeres if that is the plan, could easily backfire. Yes four or five £5m players and a couple of frees/loans would be a huge statement and still be well within FFP.

all the players we want are stuck in transfer chains. because nobody is hardly doing anything in the market. its going to be a mental month for several clubs, us included. i'm guessing we had a cm lined up and pretty much sorted already. hopefully 2.
Hope you’re right Dynamo. The way I‘m seeing it… we were desperate to cash in on Tav and with him at least were not prepared to risk availing ourselves of this transfer chain excuse.

I worry about us defensively with McGree not to mention the neeedless free kicks he gives away . However , he’s had a pre season with wilder so hopefully he’s Got him on the right page and he’s still young . He does seem to be at a new club every year though in his short career so hopefully he can be an asset for us and settle

I've got a feeling this is more about Wilder wanting the money to reshape the squad. 10m, can go a long way in the championship. We effectively have a near 40m FFP headroom to work with, depending on what Gibson is prepared to spend.

8m under last season + another year of the Monk Spunk year of the FFP window (5m) + Mel Morris Asshole tax (3m) + Forest promotion bonus Spence Fund (1.5m) + Spence sale 15m + Tav sale (10m) = 42.5m

(Trying to convince yourself)

We now need two strikers, a centre half and two midfield players.

The season starts in 2 days. It IS worrying. Managers often trot the patience line out in public but tear their hair out behind the scenes.

I have a feeling we're targeting Premier league players and with the larger squads/subs allowed they're reluctant to let players leave. Championship clubs are putting a premium on their players because they know we have money.

It's a really tough market.

Sad about Tav, don't think there's many if any players outside the top flight or that would come to us with his balance of quality and energy.

It’s crazy how this has been played out. If we sign 2 strikers, 2 midfielders and a CB, we will have less players than last season when we missed out on play offs - and cited a small squad as a contributing factor.

25m has been trousered. Plus high season ticket sales!
Trousered? You make out like boro is ran at a profit regularly and the chairman is taking out bags of cash with pound signs on them as opposed to the regular loss making vehicle that it is.

Wilder said before the window opened that some would leave

Can someone please put this thread up again once the transfer window closes?

There's massive overreaction from quite a few. It is highly unlikely that the DOF is just sat about doing nothing. Just relax and see how it pans out.

Exactly. It's a sobering thought, but if Boro banked the £25 million, and didn't buy another player, the club might just about break even for the year ending in June 2023. Just about break even.

Exactly this, it's not like Gibbo is spending it on gold plated toilets or something.

People go on about wanting to be like Brentford and bring players through, and then as soon as one of them leaves to raise some much needed funds they wet the bed.

To compete in the EFL / PL we're going to have to sell players when offered a significant profit, if you don't like it then maybe football isn't the sport for you, or Boro the club for you.

I genuinely can’t understand the reaction to Tav leaving. As I said yesterday: he works hard, granted. He’s good defensively BUT we need goals and creativity. He just does not give that often enough. Would much rather use the money to find another Matt Crooks type.

If another championship club sign Gyokeres, I would be gutted

I am just commenting so I get a notification of every meltdown.

It’s football players come and go. No one is bigger than the club. We haven’t kicked a ball yet. Get behind the team. Most teams outside the Prem will do most of their business after the first game given the fixture timetable this year. Anyone that said Tav was rubbish 2 of the last 3 years should be forced to identify themselves. Good luck to Tav that has been with us for 8/9 years and added that energy to our game. Hope he continues his form.

Let’s give any replacement (McGree or other) time.

Honestly our fans can be worse than the Geordies at times.
