Football Manager 2024

Is the mobile version of the game any good? I’ve never bothered with that thinking it was a limited in gameplay.

So in the end my conceeding 16 goals in three games turned out to be a blip and I got promoted to Japanese division two.
In order to upgrade my team I decided to buy taller players. I have managed to unearth a 19 year old striker who is 6 foot 6. Unfortunately he has no skills needed to be a striker at all, other than being tall. He does however have the defensive skills of Franz becenbauer, despite having no aptitude in that position, so I am turning him into the Japanese Alan Kernaghan.

I have made a couple of slight concessions towards the higher skill level I will be competing with. I have an alternative five at the back for away games. As well as providing defensive stability it adds another 6 footer in defence who will be useful at set pieces.

I also brought a few foreigners in. The only people willing to come to the Japanese 2nd division are has-beens who the Saudis turned their nose up at. So I'm left with the decrepid detritus of Europe's leagues. One Spaniard I signed has had what my coaches describe as "a complete collapse of footballing ability" which is a bit concerning. Especially as he's only 32.

The mobile version is free if you have a Netflix account so can try it out for free. I’ve only just discovered this and downloaded on iPad. Haven’t really played it yet but seems pretty slick from what I’ve seen.

Got to January in 1st place, 20 odd pts clear, unbeaten with 2 draws. QPR are 2nd with Solskaer as manager. Got knocked out of league cup on penalties against Arsenal. 2 nil down at half time, pulled it back and should have won. Beat Brighton 4 nil in 1st round of FA Cup..

Got lucky on the load with a lot of players coming out at their highest possible potential ability.

Formation is similar to Boro. Engel and bangura as wingback, RB as IWB. AML as If, AMR as W both in attack. A shadow striker behind the AF. In midfield I've gone for a DM on support and a BBM.

My second season is going much better. 2nd in the league at halfway. 2 points off top, 3 points above 3rd but 18 points above 4th. 3 way shoot out between Southampton, Boro and Leeds for the autos.

Still getting annoyed by some of the player interactions. Players complaining when you praise them for good form is ridiculous and managers of loaned players, because the player has played 20 games at wing back instead of complete wing back. Chelsea won't loan me anymore players now because Pocchetino doesn't like me.

Do you have your CMs in the normal centre mid positions, or in the DM/ holding mid positions?

Beaten in play off final 1-0 by Saints ☹️☹️

Strengthened a fair bit second season though. Currently in the playoffs after a month or so. Cole Palmer on loan from Chelsea 😎

With the IWB on the right a play the DM left of centre and the BBM right of centre. If I switch the wings of the IWB I switch the side for both midfielders.

When I play the bigger teams I lower my defensive lines out of possession, and depending how the game goes switch to balanced, less expressive and get stuck in.

I beat Chelsea in the fa cup final at the end of the season and now everyone wants 3 times their salary in the EPL and Europe league.

New epl season will be tough, lots of tweaking will be needed.

One thing I did appreciate is the depth of the Boro squad for the chat EFL, shame I need to swap a few for the step up

I've been taking a break from my Boro save and I've been doing Reading for the last 3-4 days. You start -4 points, horrific budgets and your entire squad will essentially be out of contract in the summer. So 6 of my 11 for most of the season has been academy graduates.
There was a takeover In January that cleared the insane debt but decided not to invest. Only signing I got to make after moving some players on was Ravel Morrison on a free.
I won't bore you with the ins and outs but I've broke the points total for league one with 104 and blitzed the goals record with 150 on top of winning the EFL trophy.
My academy graduates were insane and a striker called Kelvin scored 37 goals. A certain Lewis Wing hammered home 19 from midfield. The board have handed me £3million + 55k wages which is beautiful compared to last season! Just aiming for survival 1st season as I really want my academy graduates to keep playing!
Oh and I've sold Ravel Morrison for £100k 😂

My 2nd season was a bit crazy. Going into the last game of the season I needed a draw away to Coventry to guarantee promotion. Leeds were 2 points behind with a worse goal difference. If I had won I would have equalled the record points in the championship at 106. I lost but so did Leeds so I got promoted and even on 103 points I was 17 points off top. Southampton got 120 points. Leeds got over 100 and missed out on the autos and Blackburn finished 4th on 96. 19 points clear of 5th.

The board are still annoyed because I'm not playing defensive, direct or counter attacking football.

Well I've just totally gone against the project and sold McGree and brought in Dele Alli, for a relatively cheap fee but he is on £30k a week with the promise of a 50% wage rise if we get promoted.

I'm hoping this is my Merson/Ramirez impact signing!

i get the demo most years in an attempt to get into it and every time i just find it overwhelming as a new user

the first time i set up a friendly between Boro's first side and the u23s, accidentally registering the first team AS the u23s so i couldn't use them
resetting the save, i managed to get them to play each other and got beaten by my own u23s, not a great start

does anyone have any tips for a new player to get into it a bit more?

You can delegate all tasks that you think you wouldn't enjoy or feel would overwhelm you to your staff, that way you can streamline your experience and make it alot less daunting!

Must admit I delegate loads to my assistant. Training and all media, just can't be bothered with it. A strong assistant should be able to handle both (no surprises Woody left immediately with Albert Luque coming in as assistant).

Six games left in second season and currently 7 points clear of third. Absolutely "loaned" the league this season tho -Palmer and Fofana from Chelsea, Araujo from Benfica, Bajetic and Humphreys from Liverpool and Villa respectively.

Picked up Dendonker on a perm from Villa, less than £1m, really good value.

Gonna be a huge rebuild in the summer ready for EPL with all those loan players leaving though.

How are you only second with those loans 😂

Quick update on my reading save, had a productive summer but nothing special, few loans from the Prem, made my original loans permanent. My eleven still contains 4 from my academy and my bench contains 3 + 1 new lad who was only brought in train with the squad, he's scored 3 times from the bench.
I got a Romanian player called Ronaldo something for free and he's scored 15 times from CAM 😂 my academy striker has scored 24 😂
I'm currently top of the league on goal difference in the tightest league I've ever seen. Top 3 are all on 69 and the next three are all on 66. With 6 games left it's very much all to play for! Sunderland and Blackburn are my main challenger's with Sunderland still to come at all.
Boro are 19th in the league, although out of pity and love they've done the double over me scoring 8 times 😂
