Football Manager 2024

Greenwood has been the subject of Saudi interest on mine, but so far I've kept him. Sold Jovic to Saudi though for £60million which was a £58 million profit!
With the money I signed Estevao and Mohammed Ali Cho!

I have started a career as Boro manager and its going swimmingly. 2nd in the league after 12 games; 9 wins, 2 defeats (Blackburn and Watford away) and 1 draw (2-2 at Sunderland after being 2-0 up). Got knocked out of the Carabao Cup after a 3-1 home defeat to Sheffield United. Of course, Archer scored. The undoubted highlight was an 8 (Eight) 2 win at Coventry 2nd game of the season. Rogers and Izzy Jones are my tops scorers at present with 5 each.

I am aware of some basic tactical hints and tips if anybody is interested? They seem to work quite well for me.

Always up for hints and tips following my disastrous tender. Currently hanging on to my position, just.

Obviously alot depends on your formation but here goes:

Wingers and full backs come as a pair: if you want to play wingers play full backs or inverted full backs. If you play inside forwards or inverted wingers play your full backs in a full back position but with a wing back instruction. As Boro I play Jones as a conventional right winger with van den Berg as an inverted full back with a defend mentality. I then play my left winger as an inverted winger (miles better than inside forward) with my left back set to wing back support. This replicates our build of 3 2 5 in possession really well cos the right back will tuck in alongside the centre backs when we have possession.

If you play holding midfielders Segundo Volante is the absolute king, especially you want to play more offensively. Having 2 segundo volantes sitting is very strong. If you play conventional central midfielders Mezzala is the one to pick but I play 2 sitting with a 10 so don't ever need to do this. For the 10 I only ever set them to be a shadow striker. They get in the box far more and contribute more goals and assists that way.

For strikers I only ever use Advanced Forward attack. At the start you need to be patient cos your strikers will constantly get caught offside (Latte Lath I'm looking at you) but you can train them beat the offside trap and once they learn this trait they will score loads of goals from balls over the top.

In terms of instructions some are absolutely essential in any tactical set up These are pass into space, higher tempo, counter when gaining possession and counter press when losing the ball. Also important are run at defence and high press. The rest of the instructions are open to your own interpretation of how you want to play. I always play shorter passing, prevent short GK distribution and play out of defence but that is up to you.

The only formations I use are 4231 and a variation of 343 (3 centre backs, 2 conventional wing backs, 2 segundo volantes, inverted wingers with a striker). I've never really had much success with a 433, and as Boro on the new game with have McGree, Jones, Greenwood and Rogers who are all our better players, so playing with a number 10 is essential.

Got another one for you guys that I picked up from last year's game and it seems to have gotten even stronger this year! This tactic took my certain relegation candidates Boro to a decade of domination

SK - Support
WBR- Attack
CB- Ball Playing Defender - Defend
CB - Central Defender - Defend
WBL - Support
CM - Ball Winning Midfielder - Defend
CM - Advanced Playmaker - Attack
RAM - Inverted Winger - Attack
CAM - Shadow Striker - Attack
LAM - Inside Forward - Attack
ST - Advanced Forward - Attack

Mess about with your tactical settings for off the ball ect, but even on the new game my side finished 5th second season in the Prem and the only real upgrades were on the wing

Angelo on loan from Chelsea is an absolute BALLER of a right winger.

Regarding roles for positions, I just change it to whatever is strongest for each individual player

Is it possible with the newest version for a team like Boro to win the champions league or is it realistic and they can't/won't be able to compete financially?

I had Gibson pump £20m into the club first season so it’s completely unrealistic.

I’m stuck with a 950k wage budget and Bournemouth are the next lowest at 1.3m a week.

Just finished 4th in the prem in my 4th season, so I’ll soon find out!

Still only got £52m to spend and a £1.3m wage budget though

Good old Saudi league helped me out again

Keeper I signed for £3m the season before, sold for £37m.

Fujimoto gone for £17.5m

Big Josh Coburn now getting sunburnt in the Middle East for £19m

Managed to make the Garnacho loan permanent for £32m, and brought Gio Reyna in on loan.

Got a made up academy 18 year old Welsh striker called Dion Johnson leading the line for me now 😂. Worth £39m and labelled the new Michael Owen

Do you have your wingbacks / inverted wingers / segundo volantes on support or attack?

I started the first season again, went for the normal mode, with all the transfers in place and have kept Kieran Scott in the background this time. Absolutely cruising the league. 8 points clear going into Feb using this formation/tactics which started off being an attempt at the famous Ajax tactic from back in the Championship Manager days.
1700088074514.pngI should have enough of a lead to survive any player tantrums, they seem to be highly strung :)
The only thing that's a shame is that Greenwood, who's been unbelievable up front, has signed a new contract while I've been waiting to have 1.5 million available to trigger his buyout clause.
