England Team for the Euros

Rashford has been nothing short of a disgrace this season, for Man Utd. He's getting hooked after an hour by ETH because he's playing that bad...
Is ETH decision making meaningful, he's lost the plot at Man Utd. As for Grealish vs Rashford neither could be said to be in top form. Rashford has 1 goal and 1 assist, Grealish 0 goals and 1 assist for their clubs.

Why would he pick Rashford over Grealish? Well without Saka, we lack a direct winger that scores goals. I'd guess if he picks Rashford the rationale is to get another goal scorer on the pitch. Although I have high hopes that Jude will improve his England scoring soon, 2 in 26 games isn't reflective of his goal threat.

But he's picking Foden, who is a goal threat and is arguably more of a goal scorer than Saka, so we shouldn't be losing a lot of goal threat in that regard.

And as for Grealish or Rashford, personally, I don't even think it's close. Grealish is head and shoulders better than Rashford in nearly every department except probably pace.

Grealish even created the only goal of the game last week.

I don't really rate Italy so it shouldn't matter a great deal, but if Southgate thinks Rashford is ahead of Grealish in the pecking order, then I'm a little concerned.

So that means he's playing Foden RW, and choosing Rashford at LW over Grealish?

I know we've already qualified and we should still win the group...but come on Gareth.

And Phillips in midfield? The bloke can't even get a game for his own club whilst his main competitor is banned...

I honestly despair
But if we win and there is a good chance we will then job done isn't it?
Rashford has the pace to hurt the Italian defence

The win is usually the most important objective...but we should already be preparing ourselves for the Euros, knowing other than an almighty f**k up, we've qualified.

Game's important tonight because there is only 5 seeded places available for the Euros group stage after one is obviously given to Germany. It will be decided based on a ranking of points from the qualifying stage. At the moment England might need to win all 3 remaining games to be first seeds next summer.

Current rankings below:

20 might just sneak it but depends on Hungary etc getting more points than us if we fail to win all 3. Then check which results are being dropped off the 6 team groups and potential changers in positioning in groups.

Actually 20 points might be enough. I'd have to check which results are being dropped off the 6 team groups and potential changers in positioning in groups.

We'd overtake Turkey with a draw and 2 wins.

And Italy couldn't overtake us with that draw.

Assuming we don't bafflingly lose to Malta and North Macedonia, that is.

Outstanding tonight
The weak link is Kalvin Phillips. Stands out against Scotland but struggles against the better teams.
Not sure what our options are in central midfield as don’t see He Derain or Gallagher as the answer. Could it be Trent Alexander?

It could be. Eventually it will be Rico Lewis. Alexander Arnold does do well when he plays there for England.

Maddison or Trent for me. Obvs Rico will stake a claim soon enough.

Foden really hasn't found his goal threat for England 4 goals, it'll click one day but it isn't there yet. Rashford has 17 England goals thats why he got picked and surprise he scored, it was of course the right decision to pick him!

I don't really rate Italy
Got your excuse in early, but they are number 7 in the world and full of technically excellent players

Not as a CDM, no

Good info, I wasn't aware of this.

So after tonight, we are up to third in this table on goal difference. Put Malta to the sword and we might and then a 1-0 in Macedonia and we're there

Yes, for England, but as a whole, I don't trust Rashford whatsoever. That first half last night he kept running into trouble and losing the ball.

Luckily we were against an Italian side that is extremely poor by their high standards.

We all know rankings mean absolutely sod all. Not long ago Belgium were #1....and every single football fan at the time knew they weren't the best team in the world. So take rankings with a pinch of salt.

And as for full of technically excellent players? Who? Barella? Cristante? Frattesi? Berardi?.....none of these so called 'excellent players' would make out first 11...probably not our squad.

They're miles behind what they've been like in the past.

Italy are a poor team and it's no surprise they may need to still avoid defeat in their final match to qualify.

If we get Italy in the Euro's at any opportunity, I would be very, very confident of us beating them.

We even beat them with 10 men at their own place not long ago.
