England Team for the Euros

Yes, for England, but as a whole, I don't trust Rashford whatsoever. That first half last night he kept running into trouble and losing the ball.
yet he has 7 goals in his last 8 England starts and a goal every 3 games from a wide forward. He does give it away cheapily sometimes, but his goal threat cannot be denied.

Based on what we know the starting 11 for the euros will be same as last night except for two returning from injury - Shaw for Trippier and Sakah for Foden. I think Philips will move in January, possibly Maguire as well to get game time.
Not the team I would select but pretty nailed on for Southgate’s consistency approach

We all know rankings mean absolutely sod all. Not long ago Belgium were #1....and every single football fan at the time knew they weren't the best team in the world. So take rankings with a pinch of salt.
They are a good estimate. Italy are a very decent side, they lack a talisman up top, but the team is awash with good technical footballers and they are tactically astute and well drilled. Any win against any Italy is a very good win. It's nearly half a century since we beat them on our shores, we hadn't beaten them in a major competition in 9 games and now we have done the double. That was through our brilliance.
And as for full of technically excellent players? Who? Barella? Cristante? Frattesi? Berardi?.....none of these so called 'excellent players' would make out first 11...probably not our squad.
Of course they would, Their forwards wouldn't but midfield, defence and keeper would definitely fit into our squad.

This is just same old same old, double down, deny and undermine any successes by this team and manager.

Fact is Southgate's england have now won 8, drawn 10 and lost 9 against the traditional powerhouses of world football. That record has improved over the years after the transition years when he arrived. We have won 4, drawn 4 and lost 2 of the last 10 games against those top nations. I can't remember a time when we ever had that kind of success.

People belittle Italy and largely their evidence is failing to qualify for two world cups, they lost one qualifying group game in 20 across that period. Reality is they were unbeaten in qualifying in 2022, but were pipped into second by Switzerland. They then had a freak result against a talented N Macedonia. In 2018 they came second in a qualifying group with Spain, just one defeat in 10 qualifying games, that was away to Spain, that doesn't make them a poor side. they battered Sweden 0-1 in the play offs.

The press from last night was that this is a talented Italy side, a side on the up, a side that will get back to regularly challenging. Stop looking for excuses to batter the management, and you might actually enjoy what's happening.

What has the last 50 years got to do with anything? Italy are a shadow of what they used to be. They've been an excellent team in the past, but for a while now, they've been poor, by their high standards.

Of course they would, Their forwards wouldn't but midfield, defence and keeper would definitely fit into our squad.

Exactly, they have failed to qualify for 2 world cups. One of those occasions came against North Macedonia. They are not a talented side. Please don't spin that narrative. North Macedonia were there for the taking. The bookies had Italy huge favourites, and rightly so, they should have got past them with ease.

Facts are. Italy have failed to qualify for back to back World Cups. They will probably need to go into the final game of the Euro's qualifying, to confirm their status in the Euro's. And this is whilst they were seeded #1 in our group.

England have done quite well under Southgate and we're playing some decent football, but lets not get carried away. This is a poor Italy side by their standards and I for one would be expecting us to beat them.

Feels like some are using Italy's history to portray that they're a much better team than they currently are.

Other than their GK, I don't think any of their players make our first 11. Maybe Acerbi at CB.

We'd overtake Turkey with a draw and 2 wins.

And Italy couldn't overtake us with that draw.

Assuming we don't bafflingly lose to Malta and North Macedonia, that is.

Belgium's abandoned match against Sweden has been declared a 1-1 draw, and they only have 1 match left.

So we should overtake Turkey, Spain and Belgium and guarantee that we're one of the top seeds, barring a surprise result against North Macrdonia or Malta.

We're already 4th in the rankings with results as they are.
Very unlikely that we don't qualify as one of the top seeds now.

I can live with that selection, although I would favour Bowen over Rashford and would probably take Toney over Solanke, even though neither are likely to get on the pitch.

The only other contentious selection is George Ezra. Presumably you have picked him to entertain the squad with his singing on non-match days, but I think it would be better to take an actual footballer, maybe someone like Ezri Konsa perhaps. :p

Trafford and Henderson?
3rd gk is largely an irrelevant role. Yea there are other options

Henderson will go because he’s an excellent trainer, can see games out for the last 10 mins and for leadership. There also aren’t any other specialist defensive minded midfielders to select from

Bowen instead of Rashford, I agree but I think he’ll take Rashford in the hope he finds some form from somewhere

Ezra 😂
