8 days of mourning - is it for real?

Equality is a myth and always has been with wether through birth or through nature or genetics. Life isn’t fair the sooner you accept they the the better you’ll be.
Perhaps you are right, but we can make it fairer and more equal by sharing OUR country's resources more equally. This would mean fairer taxation and definately not paying for Windsor castle, Buckingham Palace, Sandringham, Osbourne house, Glamis, Castle, Edinburgh Castle, Frogmore Cottage, Kensington Palace. People are being evicted from their homes because they cannot afford the rent of an "extra" bedroom when it is being used to store their disability equipment. How many bedrooms have this lot got , paid for by US, the tax payer. Why oh why is the royal family allowed to own our shorelines and apply tariffs on pipelines carrying oil and gas or anything else. Which all goes into their back pockets. They are thieves living off the back of us.

Yeah, they may “work” hard but having someone to do your laundry, cook all your meals, mow your lawns, change your bairn’s nappies and do all your DIY/painting & decorating for free has its perks as well!
They're hardly unique by those parameters

Would love it if you were to be a fly on the wall, then say if you think it is work.....
When the work is purely about protecting an idea that lots of people don’t agree with, I don’t class that as “work” personally. Do you have first hand examples you want to share? Have you been a fly on the wall yourself?

Ok so Philip himself served in the Navy for a bit. That was a proper job. Most of the time their work is carrying out expensive “duties” that plenty of us don’t want them to carry out. I’d rather they sat in bed all day smoking and boozing like her sister. She’d have been happy to let the idea die.

Why do you believe the days are numbered, and why do you think the Royal Family have any sort of political influence?

I believe that their days are numbered because we don’t need them and the concept of monarchy is a relic of the past, celebrate the history but we can do better in the future. I don’t mind the queen so much, if it was my decision I’d let her see out her reign and then call it a day. I get some of them are likeable, but some are hideous. However, if we had a referendum on the monarchy today the public would vote to keep it, but I think more and more people are questioning them and Charles could have a very tough time if he is caught meddling. It may happen quickly or it could take a century, but I’m pretty sure they’re on the way out.

I’ll be echoing BoroMart but it’s well reported that the Queen influences policy before parliament and there are secrecy laws in place so we can’t see the extent of their influence. Don’t take my word for it though, there plenty a quick google search will bring up plenty of what’s known... it’s the unknown we should be a bit more worried about.

Charles’ reign will be crucial. It really helps the PR that Elizabeth is a harmless-looking old woman who most assume wouldn’t say boo to a goose. Whatever her children or grandchildren do she will be loved because people relate to her.

Charles is in for a tougher time I think, and I’m really not sure he has the diplomacy for it.

This was true but I think the next/new generation of royals are winning this PR battle back.

Totally agree. He’s often been hard to love has Charles and his meddling and outspoken views could count against him if he chooses to speak out.

All that said, the little I’ve seen I don’t mind the bloke, but as a king?!

It is all this conspiracy theory stuff that gets me, like ‘it’s the unknown we should be a bit more worried about’..... what is that all about, it is just a bland statement based on nothing. Your hope is the tide will turn but I just can’t see it myself.

I’m apathetic towards him, not as if I know him personally, but you only have to look at how he appears to have handled the Harry affair to see that he isn’t going to be a slave to “the Crown” in the way his mother has been.

That’s true. William seems likeable and I could see him being popular if Charles doesn’t muck it up, but who knows what royal scandals could be on the horizon? I doubt I’ll outlast William so it won’t be my fight! 😂

It’s not a conspiracy. There are well publicised laws in place so we legally can’t see some of the things they’re doing. Now, they may be totally benevolent and never use them to their own advantage, but I wouldn’t be betting much on that scenario. Seriously, it’s out there on through reputable sources, I’m enjoying a nice whiskey in the wee hours here in Moscow so I’m not trailing through old newspaper websites when it’s easy enough to find yourself.

Charles is the crucial one, if the monarchy survives him then I think it’ll be around after I’m gone, in which case I won’t care anymore anyway!

Time will tell, I think many feel apathetic towards him so a couple of big missteps and he has a big problem... or not, they’re a resilient bunch.

George seems ok. By the time he’s on the throne you’ll be able to watch his every move live via VR/smart glasses and judge all of his movements day by day. That’s a big incentive not to mess up.
