8 days of mourning - is it for real?

It is all this conspiracy theory stuff that gets me, like ‘it’s the unknown we should be a bit more worried about’..... what is that all about, it is just a bland statement based on nothing. Your hope is the tide will turn but I just can’t see it myself.
There is no conspiracy theory.

Charles was caught meddling in politics using his position to influence ministers and senior civil servants. He was caught by the guardian via a freedom of information act request. What was the royal response, remorse? Nope, they said nothing and then had the law changed to ensure their communications were exempt from freedom of information. If that isn't an admission that they will continue meddling then I'm not sure what is.

Next we had the guardian finding that more than 1,000laws have been meddled with by the queen in her reign. Even 1 law is too much, but 1,000+ times they used the queens approval to meddle!

The above is a matter of public record, not conjecture, not conspiracy, its fact and absolute proof that the royals are political meddlers.

I get that but it's borderline obsessive on here recently, plus in my opinion bad taste in a thread about a man's death.
I'm passionate about a fairer society, sorry if that offends you.

By the way, it's a messageboard, where debate occurs. There are other ways of showing condolence without debate, I posted two links to books of condolence for people to show their grief without it being queried.

Time and a place.

Plus you never answered my question earlier in the thread although it's my fault I didn't make it clear.

You hate the royal family, that's fine that's your choice, but what are you doing to get rid of them?

I'm a paid up member of republic and I do my bit to inform people and question the rhetoric when I see it. By posting facts like above, and setting the record straight when people post the usual PR induced tropes. Some people don't like that, and start getting hateful, that's their problem not mine, I'd much prefer for them to debate with a bit more honesty and integrity but many people aren't capable of that unfortunately. I'm not going to allow myself to be bullied off threads by anyone though, just because they can't handle their perception being questioned.

You really think it is about the money and power, like they are meglamaniacs or something, they would swap it in a heartbeat to be a normal anonymous person, I am sure but they have the backbone to carry out their National duties and obligations. Would like to see you working tirelessly, travelling around, talking and taking interest in everyone, thousands of people, at the age of 95.

Seriously? They'd swap in a heartbeat to be a bin man from grimsby or a nurse on nights in Bristol? That's one of the most ludicrous things I've ever heard. Literally.

TBF, I doubt anyone who really knew him is reading this who could take personal offence. I don’t think anyone is being outright disrespectful about the bloke himself. I understand the media coverage is always going to be big in these instances, but it’s always going to stoke debate too.

I know all people don't think like me and here's your chance to explain how that one quirk of birth makes him more significant than anyone else...

Also I've got the opposite of small man syndrome, we're all born equal, I don't believe myself to be lessor than someone simply based on that quirk of birth, you do, that means in your eyes you have small man syndrome. You see yourself as lessor than royals, grow up lad.
Why do you think everyone is born equal, it is simply not the case and if it were, you would know we had moved to some different robotic type universe. Everything is a quirk of birth , you may have been born in a remote part of Africa where child life expectancy is low, you could have been born in North Korea where freedom of speech is definitely curtailed, so your views would have been curtailed, you have to accept we are not all equal and never will be, stop deluding yourself.

I was surprised about how much coverage there was. My girlfriend had a kids channel on and it came up on there saying something about switch to BBC1 for breaking news.
She shouted me to come through as she thought something really terrible had happened.
Death is always sad, but he lived a full life of wealth and luxury the average person could only dream of, I don’t see a reason for those outside the family to be that sad?
I’ve been wondering the last few days is it just me that doesn’t really care about this, and the rest of the country are really bothered?

You mentioned earlier about socialism stifling ambition when really it’s attitudes like yours that does just that.

Is it “fair” for people to be born into that? I don’t mean fair on us, I mean fair on them? As you alluded above, what if they don’t want it? What gives us the right to thrust it upon them the moment they leave the vaginal canal?

Thought this thread was the other one the RIP one.

My bad. Beer goggles are on.

Claims of mafia behaviour, child molesting etc etc craic on guys. 👀 I'm out of this one.

How the hell do you know, last night, there was interview with a guy who knew Prince Phillip very well from the horse drawn cart racing, he was a scrap dealer from Cumbria and he said Phillip always spoke and treat him as an equal, and I bet deep down, he would have wished for a more simplistic life, without the pressures of the public eye. Money is not everything.

Lots of involvement

Agree it is not fair on people born in Africa or people who are born into the Royal Family, people just have to play the hand they are dealt.

Why do you think everyone is born equal
because we are all born with a brain, with an amazing capacity to achieve things. Its our environment that shapes us as people from that point onwards and creates barriers to our achievement. Creating limits on people is bad, taking resources away from the masses and giving them to 'special' people is repugnant. Give me one good reason why a royal baby deserves to have in front of it a lifetime of luxury and power and wealth and access to law making and to have this set in law for eternity for that child and its childrens children. Why that child will one day earn money from you and I because we use electricity from a north sea windfarm, and that child will inherit, tax free ownership of that seabed where the windfarm is. How is that not corrupt and unjust? What possible justification is there for that?
Everything is a quirk of birth
Maybe so, but monarchy is a man made structure, it is imposed on us by elitist families from our birth.

you have to accept we are not all equal and never will be
We won't ever all be equal, but that doesn't mean we should give up and not bother trying to make things more equal. The reality is if the royals could get away with taking more of our nations wealth they would. It took a lot of bloodshed to get absolute power out of their hands, don't underestimate what this institution will do to survive and get more of the pie. Money follows money, the more you have the more you can generate, it's why the 1% gain more and more without controls in place. This family have been benefitting from that structure for a very long time, some people are waking up to it.

Well my take on that is that if we can give people a choice in life - we should. We might not be able to do much about Africa’s economic woes but we can do something about the monarchy and the choices of its offspring.
