8 days of mourning - is it for real?

I know this site is left wing but didn’t realise how Socialist it actually was, all are born equal and should remain equal by all accounts.

Equality is a myth and always has been with wether through birth or through nature or genetics. Life isn’t fair the sooner you accept they the the better you’ll be.
maybe so, but certain systems exaggerate these factors significantly, monarchy being the absolute example of this. We certainly shouldn't give in and just accept bad things purely because no alternative option is perfect.

Agree but some people are finding it really hard to accept that fact, they struggle with things like ambition, entrepreneurship, people striving to better themselves, they would rather people were kept down and level, stifling progression.

You don’t have to be a socialist (or even left wing) to be uncomfortable with monarchy. Nor should you have to leave your country because you don’t like the unelected head of state and are vocal about it.
I've had the "just leave the country if you don't like it" several times in the last 24 hours. We live in a country with free speech. Anyone that thinks people should leave the country for having a differing opinion on how to run it should probably move to a communist country where thoughts and expressions against the ruling class are expelled.

no one said "remain equal", you made that nonsense up to fit your rhetoric.

Start equal with equal opportunity. Then a meritocracy allowing anyone who so wishes to achieve whatever role they desire in life given hard work and dedication. What could you possibly have against such a system?

Yeah I picked up on those comments, absolutely daft. I actually have left the country and lived under various regimes including absolute monarchy and dictatorships, so I know how vital it is we’re allowed to question authority.

And for it to be suggested that criticising monarchy is against entrepreneurial spirit is utterly bonkers, those French and Americans don’t have any of that do they?

Ambition, entrepreneurship, bettering yourself - nothing at all to do with hereditary monarchy 😂
If you look back I was referring to Socialism but as you mention hereditary monarchy then yes, that is our National model, always has been for hundreds or years and will be for many more, whether you agree with the model or not.

Interestingly apparently Prince Philip had largely socialist sympathies but “the Palace” made Harold Wilson remove all references to them from his memoirs.

Well socialism has many forms and not all go in for the hard communist theory, we have had socialist policies in place in the UK. I’ve lived in the former USSR and doubt many want it to return.

The monarchy has changed over those hundreds of years to the point where it’s now seen as ceremonial (it isn’t of course, it still has its grubby fingers in politics) so its only going in one direction. We’ll wake up soon enough, maybe Charles will interfere a bit too much, or maybe the gap between rich and poor will make in untenable, maybe it’ll even last another 100 years, but it’s days are certainly numbered.

Why do you believe the days are numbered, and why do you think the Royal Family have any sort of political influence?
