The Hot Weather Madness

The power of the media is immense - people can be manipulated and pointed in any direction world leaders want now, just by a continuous bombardment of the same message. Doesn’t matter whether it’s truth or not, most people will believe what they are fed by their newsreader on the tv. People have lost the ability to think for themselves or question anything for fear of being labelled mad
So do you think the meteorologists are wrong and the temperatures could not hit 40C causing a danger to life Over the next few days?

you can check the meteorologists twitter feeds etc rather than hearing it on the news if msn scares you.

Wear a hat
Drink plenty of water

As for long term affects of high temperatures, just do the right thing and set a good example to future generations.

Recycling, less plastic, less waste and don`t buy anything that`s just about keeping up with the Jones's

Oh the irony.

Was told to drink plenty to sort my kidney issue out. It's crystal clear **** water now though. 👀

Quick weather update, it's currently lashing it down in Great Ayton.
Same in Marton.. We were hoping to have a wander along Redcar and have a swim.. maybe later on :S

It's interesting that the people who believe one conspiracy, tend to believe lots of them, must be weird living like that, seems like it's them that's afraid of everything, or they're afraid of actual reality. They seem to be afraid of the media too, where it's quite simple to avoid the ones who write crap, as they're the ones who write crap every day (The Express, The Mail, The Sun etc). Strange how it's ok for them to trust those sources when it suits them, but not when they fall almost into line with what other more reliable media is saying.

The Express write extreme weather stories all the time, but usually not quoting anything, or quoting some obscure weather source, which is owned by the express, it's not hard to figure this out. Even they are quoting the Met Office this time, which is a rarity for them.

People getting triggered by colour contrast charts which are specifically designed to show the most contrast between our weather ranges, and hence make them a more valuable visual aid, and easy to understand quickly. They aren't meant to scare people, more than old charts, they're just better than old charts.

Some are referring to a lack of common sense, they might be right that common sense is becoming less common, overall trust of knowledge seems to be getting worse though, largely as more people jump on the conspiracy or denial of science bandwagon. Common sense should be to listen to the scientists or advice from reliable news sources, and correctly understand what they're saying, not think it's fake or blow it out of proportion.

No reliable media are saying the temperature/ heat is going to kill everyone, it wasn't for Covid or the Wars or whatever, yet they get triggered and act like it is.

All they're saying is that the temperature in some places is likely to exceed anything which that place has experienced, since accurate records began 100-150 years ago. Overall most places are going to be far hotter than we're used to, in the UK, which doesn't plan for this, hence why you don't have air con in your house. Extremes do put some people at increased risk, usually the must vulnerable who can't avoid the risk and those who lack common sense (those who don't listen to science/ experts).

When something with higher risk is about to happen, to me the reliable media aren't specifically targeting the people with common sense (other than giving them something to read), they're hoping word gets out to those who don't have it, and those who are vulnerable, to lessen the impact.

Previous heat waves in 76 and 03 caused 20% excess deaths for the month, which is ~2000 extra people dying for the month, for reference, this is twice as much as the number of British people killed in the Faulklands, Gulf War, Afgan War, IRA bombings, London Bombings and Manchester bombings combined.

The heat wave isn't going to be long, but it's seemingly likely to have a higher peak (the highest ever predicted by the most reliable sources), hard to say whether that's going to be worse or better for risk (probably better I would hope), but the problem we have this time is our resources to deal with it (ambulances and A&E) are already under extreme pressure.

Any of us could need an ambulance or A&E over the next few days, for anything, I just don't want the system even more clogged up by morons actively choosing to spend too long in the sun, or morons making their staff work outside in it all day, when they're not used to it.

Excellent summary Andy

We are going to get a few days of ‘well it didn’t get to 40 degrees today… I knew it was all just a load of nonsense’ posts now, aren’t we?
Don't panic Fab. If you still want to experience 40°c temperatures in this country you could come into my kitchen at the moment where I've got 6 gas burners on, the gas hot top and the fryer. It's nice and toasty. On my 6th pint of water already, charging up ready for 12pm. 😰

But surely that just shows how thick some people are , common sense is a rare commodity nowadays it seems , hell even my dog know to stand back when I open the oven door ....
Very true but also probably more reason to warn people, a&e departments are already on their knees without thousands of sunburn patients coming in next week. The more they can do to mitigate that the better

I think the forecast has been revised down a degree or two now, for the hottest parts at least

Boro is still on for 36 like which is 3 degrees more than the record up here.

Urgh, you have my sympathy! Stay safe
