Test and trace

So we have gone from having an App to Track & Trace where you only needed your postcode to no App to a system where the NHS wants a bit more information.

full name
date of birth
home postcode and house number
telephone number
email address

That's for people with Covid. Those who were in contact of those with Covid need not give their date of birth(which strangely I would have thought was one of the most important things so they can get an idea of age groups its affecting).

That's all well and good I would not have any issues with the above but it seems they will keep your information on file for 5 or 20 years(depending which category you are). That seems a bit of a long time and the conspiracy theorists are going to be all over this. Surely that information is going to deter people using the Track & Trace system.

Lets face it would you give any information to this Government as they are not the most trustworthy bunch of cretins you have ever seen.

It won't work here because people are selfish idiots and will not do what is required. That has been pretty evident over the last 10 or so weeks, and even more so in places like the north east, and especially Teesside.

The government put their trust in the public to do the right thing, and for all those that did there's another who did not. It will be no different with Test, Track & Trace.

Teesside has been no different to lots of places. See the packed beaches and parks down South we have had nothing to that extent. I would say over 90% have stuck to the rules pretty well. You seem to think 50% haven't "for all those that did there's another who did not."
Think you need to go back to school Rico:unsure::geek:

Why is the rate of infection so much higher up here then?

The government has failed us
I agree, as per my previous post they have got it wrong. But the general public had a role to play and far too many ignored and continue to ignore what they needed to do. The test, track and trace will be no different.

Track and trace is expected to reduce infections by between 5% and 15%. It's difficult to see how it's success will be measured. People continuing to socially distance and frequent hand washing are still the major means of further suppressing infections.

It looks like a means of counteracting the likely increase as non-essential shops open.

Asred, I have read the public announcement also. There is a couple of things of note.

Firstly it says information includes. That is not a limiting statement, so they may well ask for more information than is listed.

Secondly it says data will be retained for 5 or 20 years depending on which category you fall into. I actually think this is fair enough because of the epedemiology of the disease not being well understood. I think they are erring on the side of caution.

Finally, and this would worry me a little bit, it says You have the right to ask for the use of theinformation about you to be restricted. It does not list those uses. It then goes on to talk about special permissions granted for the use of your information without consent. Even a doctor cannot do this. It would also allow for the government to refuse the clause around deleting your data. In other words, if the government decide it's ok, they can retain your information for as long as they want, and use it in any way they choose.

The South Koreans are a completely different culture to ours. Far too many people in this country will take the **** out of it for their own gain.

Also say I'm contacted and told to isolate for 14 days because I've apparently been in contact with someone who tested positive, fair enough, I'll do that 14 days. After those 14 days I go back to work or whatever and 1 or 2 days later I get contacted again to self isolate for 14 days because I've been on contact with somebody who tested positive. Sorry that ain't happening I've just done 14 days on top of what will more than likely be 90 days of lockdown.

Its never going to work for that exact reason. What if people dont receive sick pay, will the government top this up? Struggle to believe many will make do with £90 a week sick pay when they have nothing wrong with them, also will employers accept people being off 14 days just incase they are ill, or will they force employees back into work.

If its strictly followed then it will massively reduce the chances of a second peak, but realistically we know this will never happen, unless the government make sure people are properly protected which we also know will never happen.

I can't deny that the rates are higher but I would still say your figures of those not playing the game are incorrect.
I put up daily increases in infections and Teesside has generally been lower than the national average over the last few weeks after a month of being mostly higher.

Why is the rate of infection so much higher up here then?

From information given on the recent radio 5 programme:

We have a higher than national average of key workers in this town so less people are socially isolating.

We have almost double the national average of people working in the NHS and care sector so more people in this area are exposed to the virus.

And finally, more people are living in poverty in this town than the national average which leads to cramped housing and living conditions, people with health problems etc.

In terms of breaking the rules, yeah its happening around here but it's happening everywhere. Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions.

Fat cat, if you think that I'm against it just because it is a Tory thing then you never read the original thread about the app.

My thoughts then were thus

However, after the Cummings debacle, any trust in this government has been eroded and so I will not be giving them the opportunity to use my data.

It seems by all accounts that it isn’t ready and maybe wont be for sometime soon - hopefully it isnt so fundamentally flawed to the degree that it is unusable. As and when it is launched and the various security issues addressed I will happily partake. However if what you guys are saying is true then it may not be useful for this Coronavirus but future strains!

No, it'll be useful for tracking and tracing people with or without the virus.

At the core, all you need to know is if you've been in contact with someone long enough to have caught the virus, no need for all this data collection and retention.
