Test and trace

Jack, I agree with your sentiments but not your reasoning. Generally UX is important, for a track and trace app less so, although your battery running out after 4 hours is obviously a problem, this was not due to the centralised data collection.

The assertion that a guy in a shed couldn't do it is also not very accurate, for niche applications, you are often better going with a small specialist provider. That said, I can see no reason for vendor selection based on specialisation in the governments case.

The real issue is the app just doesn't work.

Fat cat, if you think that I'm against it just because it is a Tory thing then you never read the original thread about the app.

My thoughts then were thus

However, after the Cummings debacle, any trust in this government has been eroded and so I will not be giving them the opportunity to use my data.
I accept I could be suggesting a totally implausible plan of action here but wouldn't it be better to roll out a national testing program for all, allied to freely accessible body heat sensors (can't think of correct term!).
Hasn't this been done (well, on a large scale) in China?

This is exactly how Nazi Germany started!
Wow! you really, truly are one of the people that evil was talking about. I find it sad, though not surprising, that someone can be so blinkered and nasty based entirely on a political party someone else voted for.

You really should be ashamed.

What's stopping me ringing up somebody I don't like and telling them in from the NHS contact tracing team and they must self isolate immediately?
Hell I could do it by email or even text.

I won't be believing any phonecall or text or email.

Christmas has come early for conspiricay theorists. Still I don't see how you are going to get enough people to comply, when so many don't have secure jobs.

I think I'm right in saying this worked in places like South Korea. It could work here.

If trust in the government hadn't been eroded so low. Trust in the app even lower (Or it should be).

Shame this shambles of a catastrophe of a government his eroded trust so much no one will believe this scheme.

Really, really unbelievable Jeff!!

Says who ?
As I said you have not been listening. It has a major flaw that it does not recognise obstacles, such as walls or car bodies or glass or perspex. This has been widely reported.

It has not been rolled out for the UK yet, it has not been stress tested so it cannot be rolled out as it would fail spectacularly. This was suppsoed to be live on the 1st of June. It hasn't even gone through apple review yet so cannot be listed in the apple store. Actually do your own research, it doesn't matter what I say, you will continue to post nonsense.

I knew about the not complying to GDPR, and about able refusing to put it in their app store because it failed their security tests.

I didn't know about the battery drain issues or the not recognising obstacles.

I'll be telling the I have been in contact with a Mr Cummings, Mr Johnson, Mr Raab and Mr Hancockedup.

The obstacle issue was reported about 2 weeks ago. The galling thing is, it was very predictable and was highlighted on here by several people, some of whom, I assume, have no technical expertise.

I know it has not been stress tested because it is failing on the Isle of Wight because the data collection is throwing errors.

They could stick it on the play store generally as Google do not insist on any level of security or compliance, it has either been taken off the play store or is geo blocked, I don't know which.

To be fair, if you have a decent battery you will still get 8 hours out of your device, assuming normal business use. For lots of folk who use their phone as a social media device, they will get poor battery performance generally.

It won't work here because people are selfish idiots and will not do what is required. That has been pretty evident over the last 10 or so weeks, and even more so in places like the north east, and especially Teesside.

The government put their trust in the public to do the right thing, and for all those that did there's another who did not. It will be no different with Test, Track & Trace.

The only real solution was full and enforced lockdown from the off. We'd be on the other side of it now, and there'd be significantly less deaths.

The South Koreans are a completely different culture to ours. Far too many people in this country will take the **** out of it for their own gain.

Also say I'm contacted and told to isolate for 14 days because I've apparently been in contact with someone who tested positive, fair enough, I'll do that 14 days. After those 14 days I go back to work or whatever and 1 or 2 days later I get contacted again to self isolate for 14 days because I've been on contact with somebody who tested positive. Sorry that ain't happening I've just done 14 days on top of what will more than likely be 90 days of lockdown.

.

You could flip that round. The public put their faith in the government to do the right thing. They didn't
