Test and trace

Why?
It has been developed under tender to a company with some dodgy links and with scant regard to privacy or security. It relies on a centralised database that has huge potential for misuses. With all these caveats regarding its suitability for its core purpose it is going to be pushed by a government that has massive trust issues with the general public.
It will not sniff the silicon on my phone.
Hancock said it would be rolled out across England by mid May.

The app trial in the isle of wight has been an abject failure. People on the mainland were downloading it causing it to crash. It doesn't work and is not scalable enough. The issues with working are around identifying walls and obstacles between people. It is a typical Government IT project farmed out to their cronies.

You have to do what the app says, the app is always right. You would not want to pass the virus on to one of the special people in society who work really hard and make special important decisions for our benefit, would you?

At least under 5s are eligible for testing now thanks to Dom's offspring and his impromptu public service in shaping national policy.

and thanks to the desperate need to ramp up testing to 200000 by Sunday to meet PMs target. Over 68000 postal kits sent out yesterday

I mentioned walls a few weeks ago and people told me there were special algorithams that got over the problem of walls and very small period of time near someone.

I can see a problem in a street house in say Middlesbrough where over a 100 people a day walk past the front window and registering with people in the front room of the house as they are less than 2 metres away or a block of flats where the flat is within 2m of eight other flats (above, below and to either side).

Serious questions...

Are there any statistics from the Isle of Wight study in the public domain - Openness and honesty might actually encourage more people to engage.

This word Self Isolate is used a lot - I thought it meant not leave the house, but is it true you can still go out for essential shopping?

Does Self Isolate mean you should stay in one part of the house/flat away as much as possible from other members of the household?

For example not everyone has people to shop for them or 14 days of supplies in their property.

No, a traced contact can't leave the house (property) for the duration. No exercise, no shopping. But, anyone in the house who isn't a direct contact can live as normal.

Is anyone planning on downloading? I know I’m not, have absolutely no confidence in government, no confidence in the app working as intended.

It’s just more unmitigated sh!te from central government.

My job necessitates me using a government website and completing forms and uploading submissions - it literally took years for them to get it working anywhere near adequately, and I mean just about adequately.

They can f@ck right off.

I will not be self isolating because some stranger on the phone has told me to without telling me who the infected person is if I'm showing no symptoms.

The idea with contact tracing is that you identify people someone who has tested positive has come into contact with. You then test all of these people, then if they test positive you interview them, and test people they came into contact with. And on and on.

You don't just stop with the first person and say quaranteen for however many days.

They need to put proper contact tracing in place. Hopefully this is just a stopgap while we are still in lockdown and a proper contact tracing regime will be introduced when we start to come out of it.

They need to get a shift on with the app, and make it mandatory on public transport. At least in London. You don't get through the barriers unless you can prove you aren't carrying the virus.

I got some of my information from a relative living on the isle of wight. The problems recognising obstacles is a well documented problem with the app.

It has not been stress tested yet. If only 10 million people downloaded it, it would fail to cope miserably, primarily because of the centralised data collection model.

As I have said on numerous occassions, it is very poorly architected, we have juniors at work who would have designed a better architecture than the nonsense served up by the governments selected supplier.

History tells us that the government don't do well delivering technology. I would suggest we won't have a reliable app this year unless it is scrapped and rebuilt using a proffessionally designed API.

The people designing the application architecture are either hopeless or have another agenda in mind.

mandatory? Smartphone? What smartphone? I don't have one of those......

I'm self employed, zero chance of me self isolating my self employed grant runs out in 3 days time, and no scheme is running for those that have to self isolate, that means I have no choice but to return to work.
