Teesside Airport Scoops Award

Trying to find a table showing Teesside as no.1. Liverpool John Lennon seems to be the winner, even the Daily Fail had it as no.1.

As said above, as with any industry that does these awards, they're a load of guff. To highlight this look at the skytrax best European airports winners - ok maybe all of Europe has better airports than Teesside though

But then they've got a Western Europe category

Surprisingly we aren't on the list. We probably didn't pay the fee to enter that one.

When I worked for a credit card firm we were entering them every year, you paid a few thousand to enter and then paid a PR firm a wedge to come in and fluff up every little success story and make it sound like they'd cured cancer

Then there is an award dinner night where reps from every firm go in tunes and golf clap at the winners

Massive waste of cash in an attempt to get some logos to go on flyers. We won it several times for doing our jobs.

Same with "best curry" awards etc, they're not taking entries from every curry house to find the winner, a firm has applied for it and had the better PR firm.

The fact that CDG is classed as No1 in Europe and Manchester is even on the list for Western Europe shows these rankings have absolutely zero credibility

I don't know how many airports there are in Western Europe but Manchester would be bottom of that list

The place is so much better than it use to be. I used it regularly between 2013 - 2016 and it was miserable. Well done to everyone involved - apart from you dodgy Ben.

It's because there are numerous award groups providing similar awards just like customer service awards, IT provider, restaurant of the year etc it's a huge money spinner when you think their only cost is putting on an awards dinner and many of them charge for that too. Firms enter it because they can then splash the badge on their literature and puff pieces, I used to hate doing them. I remember the PR firm sitting with a girl on my team who had helped a customer unstuck abroad and it was a helpful interaction but by the time she was done his wife was pregnant and all sorts.

She basically did her job and we had to spend ages glamming it up. Complete sham industry

An award that you pay to enter - no list of who else entered or how much they paid

hmmm...

That’s what I used to pay. But they said £10 now.
I got dropped off there on Tuesday and it was 2.50 so must be a very recent change. The whole travel experience from Teesside is excellent. Especially the new scanners where everything stays in your bag and you can carry up to 2 litres of liquids.
