I've just had a quick flick through the other thread on 'Teesside Airports Lounge' to remind myself that no one uses it and there are no flights to suitable destinations.

Easterside_Red will choke on his cornflakes this morning.

Sat in the Rockcliffe Lounge at the Airport as I tap out this message. I can only agree, experience so far has baan great. No queues to drop off luggage, no queues at security. Very pleasant surroundings and all the staff have been chatty and friendly. What a difference from when I first flew from here 40 years ago. It's definitely my airport of the year and I hope you pick up more business as a result of the award.
Also, looking out the lounge window, there's a few private jets. Teesside must be picking up.

Plus if your going to stay up to 2 hrs, park in the car park wander into cafe and you get a free coffee.

One of the judges is the Senior Aviation Sales executive for....Newcastle International Airport.

Would *they* have won otherwise?

Not to mention the award is one of those ones where you pay to nominate yourself.

I'd rather the airport sustained itself and our taxes didn't pay for it (and it's still running at a loss, btw)

Isn't no queues due to low traffic? If it was busy you'd have the same queues as anywhere else

As said above, as with any industry that does these awards, they're a load of guff. To highlight this look at the skytrax best European airports winners - ok maybe all of Europe has better airports than Teesside though



But then they've got a Western Europe category





Surprisingly we aren't on the list. We probably didn't pay the fee to enter that one.

When I worked for a credit card firm we were entering them every year, you paid a few thousand to enter and then paid a PR firm a wedge to come in and fluff up every little success story and make it sound like they'd cured cancer

Then there is an award dinner night where reps from every firm go in tunes and golf clap at the winners

Massive waste of cash in an attempt to get some logos to go on flyers. We won it several times for doing our jobs.

Same with "best curry" awards etc, they're not taking entries from every curry house to find the winner, a firm has applied for it and had the better PR firm.
