Why are we talking about our Head Coach and his position when virtually nobody wants him removed, or have I missed a thread containing a mass of posts calling him out. I see loads of posters supporting him, and so we should, he is not the root cause.
Those thinking he is fully bought in because he says he is happy with everything in front of the media, what do you expect a media savvy, media trained, well respected former England international and former Man Utd captain to say? He is a paid employee of the club, he has standards he has to keep and uphold. He is a part of the recruitment process, but not the recruitment team. I suspect he won’t have known very much if anything about any of these lads that have come in personally, bar maybe Dieng and O’Brien. He will be very reliant on the detailed analysis held by Scott and his assembled army of elves. I assume as Head of Football at the club, Carrick presumably reports to Scott. (If that is not the case, then it begs the questionable title of Mr Scott).
A Head Coach is not the same as a Manager in the sense some people seem to think it is. Carrick does not have all the responsibilities afforded to some of our past incumbents like Uncle Tony for example. He relies heavily on the data held on players strengths weaknesses etc being pretty accurate. He won’t know the level of quality of some of these kids beforehand. They are recruited and handed over for him to mould into a team. However, as of yet, the quality seems a lot lower than the standard needed to hit the ground. It’s like a potter trying to make a bowl out of mud at present. I feel for him. Another poster has suggested two players have been mis-scouted, I hope that is wrong, as if true, then it should be obvious where the buck stops, Carrick should not be held responsible for the problem caused by areas of the club he is not accountable for. Recruitment is not his role directly that is Scotts responsibility.
Carrick has my full support as I don’t want to see him go the way of others, I would keep him even if god forbid we were relegated. Obviously we can’t stop him walking, but I believe he is a fighter and a really warm decent man that we are lucky to have. It is others where my eyes are at at present as recruitment so far is looking iffy, lets hope things click for 2 or 3 of them at least.
