Stop with the Carrick out threads

Back him. He’s been dealt a terrible hand. He’s the right guy for our club. No doubt it’s a big week for him but honestly threads like ‘ 2 games and he’s gone’ just needs to stop. I should be surprised but I’m not. The usual suspect

We’ve got super Michael Carrick.

He will work some magic tomorrow night.

I think he's going to get 10 games at least but if we still only have 1 point after those 10 games it's going to be very concerning.

Fingers crossed we get that first win tomorrow.
It feels like the opposition we need to get that first win. It is a big game, I do concede that. I just think the extra pressure from fans right now is probably not what’s required. He gave us a season to remember and we’ve got to believe he’s got it in him to turn this round. Time will tell.

I don’t agree with the carrick out stuff, but people can post what they like. people who post silly stuff will just get ignored. And it’s not out of the question if a team has 1 point after 8 games that manager would be under intense scrutiny

It all feels a little deja vu though. Hit the ground running tail off and start the next season horrifically

We all know it’s not great right now, In fact it’s pretty woeful. But to create threads like that after last season is pretty poor in my opinion. I think if we are still in the same position going into the next international break then it will obviously become a conversation to be had.

I certainly don’t think he’s lost the players he’s got, I just think he has lost quality players and we haven’t replaced any of them well enough really. I’d imagine next season will be better than this and I hope he’s here.

I think he realises himself that he could be in a bit of trouble if results don't turn soon, hence why we didn't see Rogers or Silvera in the side over the weekend.

Temporary plan is probably going to be to divert away from developing these young players and just try to get some points on the board.

It will be tough to take if we lose again tomorrow. Big game for both clubs.

When ever there are difficulties its either [or all]:

Gibson out!
Gibsons fault because he`s a Tory!
The club has no ambition.
Carrick out!
Woodgate failed the first time!
Woodgate out!
Get rid of Scott!
Its recruitment`s fault!
Its Carrick`s fault - he picks the team!
Its the players fault - they`re on the pitch!
Its the club`s fault for not giving XYZ a chance!
Gareth started the rot!
We should have bought XYZ when we had the chance!
We bought second rate rubbish!
We should be like XYZ who are a well run club.
The club are schit and I`ve been going 125 years!

🥱

I think there are plenty of questions around his management this season, but I'd be giving him until the international break even if we lost all 4 leading up till that Sunderland match.

I'd say he's earned that.

Things direly need to change though, tomorrow is huge.

If we have this long term project, unearthing players, polishing turds and selling them on for £billions, stick with him for 3-4 years.

Just get this feeling he will become a very good manager.....but if he's hounded out because we aren't in the PL, could - again - be very short sighted. Another team will get a better manager, with Boro used as a team to help him get his feet under the managerial table.

The ultimate fault lies with whoever decides the strategy!
The club has lost its way….. again!
Woodgate failed the first time (FACT)!
Heads of Football, what‘ve they ever done for us!
Its recruitment`s fault (FACT)!
Its the players fault - they`re on the pitch (FACT)!
Its my dad’s fault for making me go before childline was created!
Jack Robson started the rot!
We should have bought David Cross when we had the chance!
We bought third rate rubbish…… again!
We should be like Brighton who are a well run club.
The team are schit and I’ve been going 50 yrs (happy anniversary to me)

sorted it for you 😉

Edited first line as I don’t think you are allowed to mention a certain someone any longer as yet 2 more threads have been pulled today. I think I mentioned it once, but got away with it.

I don't think Carrick is the problem and I'm certainly nowhere near the "let's get rid of him" stage, but I don't think there is anything wrong in questioning his judgement and his decision making. Last season was great but only to a point. Once we started struggling over multiple games he never managed to turn it around and get us back on track and that has now carried over. Maybe he is a great manager to have when you are winning but he doesn't know what to do when you are losing. Don't forget, this is his first managerial role so he actually has no experience of how to handle this situation. Maybe he will learn from this if we do ever turn it around but maybe it will always be a weakness of his.

At the moment he is chopping and changing every week and that is never a good sign. He doesn't know who is best team is or what formation will work with them. That can be a good thing if you have so many options you want to fit all your good players in but currently it's more like "surely one of these combos will work". It reminds me of Monk's tenure a bit. Lots of options but none that stand out and getting them to play well together is seemingly impossible. We really need to start winning games because inspiring belief in players that are winning every week is a lot easier than doing it to players that are in the sort of run we are in.

Spot on.

Agreed, the biggest frustration for me is that he's shoehorning what he has into 'the system' rather than adjusting 'the system' to what he has.. It's the single biggest red flag that shows the difference between a good manager and a run of the mill manager.

Changing personnel within that framework just compounds the problems. We've been screaming it for weeks Square pegs, square holes please.

If we played a system that suited the players tomorrow and lost I'd be fine with it, give it a week to drill and hopefully start to see an uptick in results.

If we play the same system that we have been and doing ridiculous stuff like O'Brien on the left then it's impossible not to blame the manager.

It was telling to me that in the 'team' thread yesterday before kick off no one really had any idea what the formation was going to be!

Pathetic isn’t it.

But mate this is how it starts.

I'm concerned. Runs like this can be hard to get out of. It doesn't mean Carrick is a bad manager, plenty of very good managers have found themselves in the same boat, failed to turn it around, got the boot, then gone on to have success elsewhere.

That's what worries me, because I do think he'll go onto to be a very good manager. But if he can't turn the corner its a dilemma for Gibson.

A few wins and it'll all feel very different. But we desperately need them soon.

Agree 👍

Me any my daughter were fairly sure he'd switched to a 4-3-3. But then realised Crooks was there. So 4-2-3-1. Where was O'Brien and Hackney playing?

Was head scratching our (potentially) best CM ended up left in the 3, Crooks as the No 10 when Rogers and Greenwood were on the bench 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️.

Needs to stop this over thinking, trying to do what he did with Chuba. Stop. Play players in their natural positions until we shore things up. Then start to tinker.
