Southgate about to pick the wrong side - again

Bit **** all round wasn't it? Sterling took his goal well. Phillips man of the match by a country mile. Lack of intensity after the first ten minutes is concerning.

I think some of the question marks about the team were justified before the game, most pundits questioned the selections of Trippier at LB and Sterling in the team.

Who knows how the game would have went with a different selection but you can't knock Southgate for how today went. He set out to nullify Croatia's midfield and it worked really well.

I thought Rice and Foden were quiet and Walker was poor in the first half. Mings and Stones were excellent and Calvin Phillips was superb. I didnt want Sterling in the team but I think he was good and proved most people wrong today.

A very professional performance on the whole which we would have all taken.

Couldn't be more wrong.

Too hot to go full belt all game. We controlled it, they never looked like scoring. Great start.

Nice one Randy 👏 Takes a big man to admit when they've made a mistake.
🤣

Stealthy b***r Stu.

Pleased we won but we aren't going to win a tournament with that level of intensity. In sure Gareth will remind them on during the week before the Scotland game. It's a perfect opportunity to lay down a marker for the rest of the tournament.

Trippier I accept that critiscism, Sterling less so. He has played well for England in most games for the last 3 years, plus Kane is slow, we needed pace in the side

I’d actually not be against Grealish starting over Foden v Scotland. Foden didn’t do badly but wonder whether that little bit more experience might help Kane get a bit more service and stop dropping so deep, he was playing in central midfield for some it.

Foden was a bit quiet after that great effort and seemed to get frustrated. Maybe we need to ease him in more gently.

Sterling proved Southgate right and most other people wrong so well done to them both.

If we all knew how Sterling would play before the game then there would have been no discussion about his inclusion. He has been poor for most of the season so the questions about him were totally valid but he looked more like his old self today.

I'd like to think we'll dominate possession vs Scotland, which will suit Foden. Think we'll see more from him.

I'd replace Mount with Grealish, possibly Shaw or Chillwell for Trippier but otherwise I'd stick with the same team.

You want intensity in that heat? We won because we played smart not hard

Aye. Least you can expect when representing your country. But we won so that's all that matters at the end of the day. All I'm saying is we have room for improvement.

Phillips and Rice definitely start again for me next game. They both controlled the game in the middle of the pitch really well.

Sterling bang back in form too. Great to see especially with Croatia doubling up on Foden.
