Southgate about to pick the wrong side - again

I thought Mings did very well too.
I wouldn't have started either, but they were very good.

That win has taken a lot of pressure off for the Scottish match.

Fair play to Sterling, he scored the winner and in doing so vindicated Southgate's choice. Sterling deserves to feel good tonight.
I was far more surprised that he took the chance than I was him blazing over later on and that's what I fear in future matches.

I think the one he scored is why he’sin the team. We need the pace. For the one he missed its instinctive finish and he’s rubbish at those

I think Southgate has shown that he isn’t out of his depth. Sterling was his biggest call and nailed it
 
Without debating the team selection I hope we play better than that in the rest of the tournament or at least for as long as we are in it, I thought we were lacking today, got away with it because Croatia look like they are in decline but let’s hope we improve.

We were far better than Croatia for the entire match?
The same Croatia that people were claiming were destined to beat us because of the team selection.
We got away with nothing, it could have been more.
 
Not a great selection or team performance for me, sure Phillips played the ball through to Sterling for a neat-ish finish, but the team performance wasn't good, we looked deficient throughout.

To be fair we had the same amount of shots and possession was basically equal.

I don't think he is building for Qatar, he knows this is a great squad, although maybe missing 2 players from really being stacked.

I thought we looked excellent for the first 10 to 15 minutes and then settled into mediocrity apart from Sterling’s excellent finish. I thought Sterling was by far our best player today as well. Second half I started thinking about jobs I’ve got to do around the house and garden, that’s how interesting I found it.

it certainly wasn’t brilliant but it was solid

Croatia had their fair share of the ball in periods but we never looked in any danger. Even when we went 1-0 up, I think past teams may have found themselves pinned back hanging on to a 1-0 lead against a team that can pass the ball like Croatia, but we never let that happen.

I think it was good signs. I don’t worry about our forward play, my doubts are basically about managing games against sides with good experience like Croatia, and we managed it.

plus we’re playing against a very decent side, World Cup finalists. People say they’re in ageing side, But Modrić is 35 and the rest of the players are late 20s and early 30s, pretty much prime for most.

all things considered, it was a good result and performance.

World Cup finalists due to our incompetence 3 years ago. They're not a good side, and I hope we improve, we weren't good today either.

We were incompetent in the semi final, we should have attacked and finished them off. The French didn't mess about with them in a very one sided game.

based on what? They have lots of technical players, a core of experience that have played together a long time and have a real togetherness and national pride. Yes they 'over acheived' making the World Cup final but they are a top 10 side and capable of cutting any team open and beating any side.

Same today as then, we have better players and more to choose from. We bottled it on the big occasion.
 
Maybe based on the fact Croatia's form going into this tournament was appalling.
