I do understand your point and everyone, me included hopes upon hope Sheffield or Luton slip up and that we make it. I will be cheering just as much as anyone. I think Festa5 understood my view better than most even though he thought differently too.Its not controversial. It is just odd.
Fair enough if that is your opinion but is not backed up by any of the facts presented to you at various places on this thread.
So history, age, experience, realism or common sense don't support your view. Quite the opposite in fact.
I could understand if your point was that Boro have let you down your whole life so you tend to be more pessimistic, my dad is similar. But I'm pretty sure a 16 year old realises that a team with more to play for is more likely to be competitive than a team that doesn't, absolutely no idea what that has to do with age.History can make a case for either view, age/experience tells me teams with reason to be competitive are more likely to offer more in terms of desire, will etc than teams that don’t thats all. I also know it does not mean they will, I merely think it more likely and when ability is closely matched that desire and willingness to put maximum effort in gives the team with something to gain beyond pride, the edge.
FFS I am not saying older people know better as well people should have the sense to know. The point was, age changes you, your thinking, judgement, hopes over time. I don’t put so much value on hope nowadays because it has been dashed too many times. I limit the hurt that hope alone causes, you do to a degree become cynical with it, granted, hence the typical Boro comments bandied around from time to time. When I was younger I bought into the hope more than the likelihood and it hurt when let down…. a lot, its natural. I am not suggesting hope is pointless good on anyone for having it, when it comes off the high’s are higher when it doesn’t the lows are lower. I just think age helps you manage that differently, but feel free to carry on taking the pish if ya want peepsI reckon if we win we get in.
What do I know though? I'm only 34.
I dont' think anyone is taking the ****, you almost belittled comments earlier using your age and experiences in life as a way to argue your opinion against mine. I will say it again, your opinion is your opinion and this talk of realism you spoke about doesn't make sense. As has been proved, we now have a better chance of qualifying for the play offs and yes I am more hopeful than I would be if Luton got the result they were after yesterday.FFS I am not saying older people know better as well people should have the sense to know. For me it doesn't work like that. I can spend this week thinking we're going to get in the top 6, or thinking we're not. But come the end of the match on saturday it wouldn't change my level of disappointment if we don't make it, it would be the same either wayFFS I am not saying older people know better as well people should have the sense to know. Preston 0-2 BoroWhat’s everyone’s predictions on scores?
Preston 0-2 Boro
Sheff United 1-1 Fulham
Luton 0-0 Reading
That’s mine.
upto 5th we would go!Preston 0-2 Boro
Sheff United 1-3 Fulham
Luton 0-1 Reading
They have already beaten us this season and how they won that game is beyond me smogIt depends on what we do at Preston.
And Preston can play.
That Danish striker is a bit special.
Well ok probably not that special but still better at putting the ball in the net than any one individual we have.
And they have already beaten us this season.
But the table says that as a team we are better this season.
We have scored more, conceded less and gained more points.
We have a chance.
But this is Boro. We know what that means.
Isn't it brilliant though?
I love being a Boro fan.
I am not sure that professional footballers turn off. They are naturally competitive.
Spot on Erimus, I'm pleased it's gone to the last day. I was one of the doom mongers post Huddersfield. If we miss out on the play offs it won't be because Luton lost last night, it will be because we lost twice to HullAs things stand, even after getting hammered at Fulham, Luton still have it in their hands, beat Reading & they're in the playoffs, Sheff Utd know, more or less, draw, unless we win by 3 clear goals & they too, are in the playoffs, but in the real world its not as simple as that & the very reason we love football, its so unexpected, we could win & results go our way & end up facing Huddersfield, win & one of the two mention lose & we face Forest, or miss out altogether
Lets enjoy the build up to the weekend, enjoy the game & take it from there
CW has done a fantatsic job in the time he's been here

8 days ago Preston were bummed 1-4 at home by local rivals Blackburn.
That is the mighty Blackburn who had just lost at home to Stoke and away at Peterborough; before getting spannered at home to Bournemouth.
PLEASE let's not build Preston into being a team to be feared.
We should beat them and everyone knows it.
Whether it is enough, is not in our hands, but come on, going to Deepdale needing to win is a pretty decent chance.
Seriously what is the matter with people?
Sheffield United are hosting the runaway league winners who have scored over a hundred league goals and seven against a play off hopeful yesterday.
Luton have just leaked seven in their last match and are hardly invincible.
Reading, their opponents won away a fortnight ago at Sheffield United.
I believe we are a better team than Preston, Sheff Utd and Luton and will prevail.
I am also absolutely not quaking in my boots at the thought of playing Forest, Bournemouth or Huddersfield when we have won 4 of the 6 games with them this season.
There are 6k going west on saturday - bare minimum.
We will be coming back successful.
@indeedido get yourself in the dressing room pre game.Come on admit it, you pinched this text from Chris Wilders pre match team talk note book!
In all seriousness, this reads like a pre-match team talk for the fans. Hell, reading that has even motivated me more for the weekend! UTB!
Lets face it - Fulham players would've been out until the early hours (at least) last night and probably the same today....i agree with you Mr C although it makes me uneasy agreeing with you....you know that....I still wish Fulham hadn’t won the title tonight. I really believe it was our best chance them having something to fight for. We are now relying on Fulham and Reading playing for pride when in truth, neither team has anything to play for. I think it was the WORST outcome possible
Ridiculous. It’s done now though. Now we are looking at 2 sets of results outside our own rather than 1. No matter how you dress it up, the fact is we are in a better position now for things to potentially go our way than if Luton won. The injuries etc and the dented confidence is also a bonus. Fulham’s high confidence and riding on the crest of a wave is a bonus too. There is no negative to tonight.
More ridiculous than thinking professional footballers will be out on the lash all week before they have a game at the weekend?Ridiculous.
