Sheff Utd Forum

Something else Fulham have to play for is the most goals scored by a team in a second tier season, or at least the since 1992 record.

They've currently scored 106 goals, what they'll be told is the record is 108 goals by Man City in 2001/02.

(The actual record is 122 goals by Middlesbrough in the 1926/27 season where Camsell set the actual individual goal record)

Grasping at straws ffs

You're not a proper Boro fan then - I expect us to draw with Preston equalizing deep into injury time:cry:
No no no…..you’re forgetting the obvious.…

We get a penalty to win in injury time. Sporar scores but Connolly is penalised for encroachment. Sporar then has the retake saved and Balogun balloons the rebound over.

That would sum up the Boro.

It's all ifs and buts. If Bournemouth fail to win tomorrow, then the argument that a Luton win would have been a better result for us will lose all validity.

We know teams with nothing to play for can still be professional and get a result. Can always remember Fulham coming to the Riverside and grinding out a 0-0 during our relegation season, even though they were midtable at the time and had nothing to play for.

Lets hope Fulham can do something similar this weekend.

a draw Blades v Fulham would put them on equal points with a Boro win .... we would need to win 3-0 to get above Blades

Players are always looking to extend their contracts or get new deals and in Luton’s case they have been clearly punching way above their weight all season long. After a 7-0 defeat I’m willing to suggest any team will have a hard time preparing for the next game as the coach will need to regain the trust of the players. I would imagine many of the Luton players will be finding it hard to sleep after such a trouncing. Could be a very difficult last match for them.

If it's 0-0 then a 2-0 Boro win would be enough.

If Sheff Utd score and it ends a draw then we'll have to win by 3 clear goals.
I think we have to score 3, if Utd score in a 1-1 draw in their game, so 3-1 would be enough. If it was 2-2, then 4-2 would be enough for us?

In other words, we need to score two more than Utd, in a win that was by two clear goals.

I think.

Yes, I've had another look at the table and you're right.

If only it was as simple as a win would be enough for us. I'm stressed out already and the games haven't even kicked off 🥴

I dont get this nothing to play for nonsense, I used to play tennis with 2 ex pro footballers and they were the 2 most competitive people I've ever met, they even wanted to win the warm up.
I dont ever recall playing any sport and not giving everything to try and win.
The only thing I would say is I wouldn't trust an out of contract player to go head first into a challenge knowing the consequences of injury.

Percentages to date -

Sheff U win at home 54%
Sheff U win or draw at home 77%

Fulham win away 60%
Fulham win or draw away 81%

Luton win at home 50%

Reading win or draw away 40%

Both games very even on season statistics.

Possibly the most worrying stat is Boro win away 27%….

Col everybody knows we're not the favourites in this situation.

We still wouldn't be favourites if Luton had beat Fulham and secured their playoff place.
Well that is obvious, the issue is about the opposition though and how much fight they will have. Will they both be happy to put in the extra yards, the 50/50 tackles with their holibobs round the corner? I seriously doubt it. Will Fulham and Reading want to win more than Luton and Sheff Utd? I don’t think so, they have professionalism and no more. I hope that is enough but expect Luton, Sheffield and Boro all to win, I hope beyond hope I’m wrong and hope fear grips one of the others, but doubt it will.
