Sheff Utd Forum

If Bournemouth had won after, which I don't think they will, and I don't think 4 defeats in 6 would motivate them more than a 7-0 win would.
Think think think, Fulham playing first and winning secures the title, they could not be sure what happens after. They rightly could not take the risk. You are hoping they stay professional. Would you celebrate winning tonight? We’ll see.

I'd be bricking it if I was a Sheffield United fan.

Injuries to key players and they're playing the best side in the league in a party mood.

Obviously I'd still sooner be them than us, as they've got the advantage, but it's a very nervy position to be in.
I’d sooner have the points

Not sure what your point is here?

You wanted Luton to win, so I'm talking from a theoretical world where they did.

Bournemouth then drop points the next day and Fulham have the title confirmed on the back of a defeat and go in to the final game of the season with no motivation, short on confidence and nothing to play for.

I would celebrate the win tonight.. I would also go to Sheffield and kick their asre!

No way would I let them get the double over my team.. I’d punish them. Prove that I was premier league quality.

Got to say I think Fulham winning 7-0 can only be a good thing.
I think you’re overestimating them ‘needing something to play for’ , but just my opinion. If I’m in that camp I’m going into the last game wanting to win, knowing we’re the best in the league. I HIGHLY doubt these guys make it this far as professionals with a mindset that switches off once they’ve got over the line.
Pro sports people can’t stand being beaten onto the bus by an old lady 🙂

We can only do what we do ....lap of gods after that , Fulham relax at Sheff & play like that , they beat anyone in this league...........Lutons **** is now borderline collapsing & the longer it goes v reading the better , they did NOT COPE with pressure tonight .

If we do our job and beat Preston (which won’t be easy) then it’s quite possible at least one of either Sheffield or Luton will slip up - Fulham walloping the hatters has opened another door ajar that wasn’t there before 👍🏻 There is definitely more pressure on the two sides above as they’re at home with a two point advantage over us and are expected to get the results they need, but it really would be a typical Boro moment if both of them fail to get a result an we don’t win either 😵‍💫

I hope you are right. History tells me otherwise. I like teams to have something to play for more than personal pride.

I’m a realist, hence why I have worked out tonight’s result gives us the best chance of qualifying for the play offs.
So 2 teams with nothing to play for against two teams that have gives us a better chance than 1 game where both teams have something to play for is better hmmm. I hope you are right but i expect a Sheffield and Luton win right now.

Happy if you tell me I told you so, but I don’t think you’ll get the chance more is the pity

If you want to use history:

That was Derby losing against one of the worst sides in the league in Reading on the last day in 2015, Reading had nothing to play for, and Derby dropped out of the play-offs.

Sheffield United are playing by far the best side in the league, and can't afford to drop points.

Luton are playing a Reading in a similar situation to that 2015 match, and also can't afford to drop points.

Another example from 2020.

Nottingham Forest play Stoke on the last day, who started the day in 17th with absolutely nothing to play for.

Forest only needed a point to confirm their play-off spot, and knew it would take a a six goal swing with defeat to drop out.

Forest lost 4-1 and dropped out of the play-offs as Swansea won 4-1 below them.

Like i said, it is the hope that kills you.

Hope you win through and call me out. I will be backing a Sheffield and Luton double win to ease my suffering

There's that "realism" again, actively betting on the outcome you apparently don't want to happen, ignoring evidence that teams with nothing to play for do actually try to win football matches. 😂

I'm well aware that we're third favourites in this battle, but having belief is far more enjoyable than actively pouring misery on the situation and expecting it all to go wrong.

I'm excited before the match, I'm still fully prepared for the very possible outcome that I'm travelling back across the Pennines disappointed.

The same exact situation happened when we played Rotherham on the last day in 2019, I enjoyed the match and got over the disappointment.

It's not the hope that kills you, it's the hope that makes it enjoyable.

You stick with your hope and I’ll stick with my realism, i hope you win through but i expect to be right

History won’t decide what happens on Saturday. We won’t draw, Sheffield won’t draw and Luton won draw.

Ours is the biggest risk in my opinion. If we win that then we need a top six team to lose on the last game of the season.

It helps us that Sheffield are playing Fulham.. in fact there can be no better team for them to play. If they pull out a performance like the did against us.. they might well get the result they are after.

Luton are in bother, but the advantage of playing at home and against a low side that also seems to be in bother. They get their players back and spurred on by the crowd.. who knows!
