Scientoligists

Strange and thick. I don't have a lot going for me. Unlike you modesty has never been my strong point.

Putting it mildly you appear to be ****** nuts mate, the cod philosophy you spouted earlier on after I (obviously) punctured your delusion appears fairly ok compared to your most recent posting, what on earth are you trying to prove?
I got caught by the grammar police ( not you) and so you go doolally post ing this drivel.
Your behaving really odd , Id suggest you take a rest.

I am surprised you are chatting to a bloke you think is thick.

Out of interest when you call strangers; thick, odd and strange when you are out what do they say?

How Scientology seems to get singled out for criticism of its beliefs is rediculous. It's no more ludicrous than every other religious organisation, all of them designed to impose obedience, control & extract money.

Religion survives because even if only 30 % believe in God and a politician admits it's a load of bollox that will be enough to lose him his seat in the next election.
We are meant to live in tribes as we did in pre Roman times with our extended families.
This explains why hen parties, stage dogs and football matches are so popular.
Trouble is the establishment cant control tribes very easily .
So religion controls the people. Build huge churches like york minster so the peasants are so impressed they believe whatever you say.
This is 2021 tho and whilst the church owns billions of tax free property and rented farms, the people are kept believing by the subtle media godsquad tv on a sunday etc.
Religion is bad science but the most lucrative fraud invented.

I don’t think that’s true, many ancient religions and belief systems arose as a way of understanding the world and the role of humanity within it, prior to the major scientific discoveries that began to explain what was previously ascribed to god, gods or other spiritual factors.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, Scientology is a young religion based on crackpot sci-fi by a bloke who was pretty up front about his intentions in creating a new religion. Of course, many older religions today have elements of control and money grabbing like you say, but there are also much deeper factors to consider like culture, family, tradition and history that explain their continued popularity, even if many of us have largely move on - something harder to explain with a cult like Scientology.

The Dianetics book written by Ron Hubbard was basically a recruitment tool.
You are meant to read it and question a lot of the deliberate contradictions.
When you contact them they use pressurised sales techniques a d b4 you know it your paying them 10% of your wages

Remember 20 years ago when there would be religion threads every week and people would get into massive squabbles and go off in a huff. Ah the good old days. Replaced by brexit now I suppose. I wonder if it's had its day as a news item, or if it's due to everyone getting older and being more familiar with death.

Are you getting tough now? Dear me.
I am way to old to be tough. I was just wondering if this is how you talk in the pub.

I don't know why you needed to insult me on a public board when you don't know me. I get you are against religion but you seem a little too aggressive.

The irony is that religion is so discredited by science that it is no longer considered worthy of debate.
Therefore it gets off Scott free to keep its place as a tax avoiding part of the establishment.

Science has never discredited religion only the books. In fact it doesn't even attempt to discredit a supreme being.

As I posted earlier this kind of comment only demonstrates how little you understand where science is today.

Here are some examples of things science can't explain, and they are fundamental to existence. How life began? Where does conscience thought reside? What is required for it to develop? How does it work? What primal cause created the theoretical big bang? It's there life in the rest of the universe? What was before the Big bang? What is dark gravity? Why isn't the universe expanding much quicker than we see?

Perhaps religion allowes people to fill in those gaps and give them some comfort.

If it comforts them to believe that conscience resides outside the body and survives after death why would that bother anyone else.

The definition of science is the truth.
Science has very good theories about how life began.
It is interesting that God has retreated to before the big bang.
What does the comfort blanket of deluded people have to do with anything including the biggest fraud of all time.
Selling life after death is disgusting in my opinion.

We don't have good theories about how life began at all. We have 2 major schools of thought and little or no evidence for either nor have we come close to recreating life.

Science isn't truth at all. It's theories that change over time or are tossed out and we start from scratch from time to time.

We have nothing like a unified theory at the minute and plenty of scientists don't think we ever will.

I agree "selling" life after death is a bit amoral. However believing in God isn't buying life after death.

As for god retreating to before the Big bang. Hmm again this demonstrates a very small amount of understanding of science.

I assume you believe conscience is just a by product of life. Science knows virtually nothing about conscience. Perhaps that's where God lives, who knows not me that's for sure.

Again for clarity I would describe myself as an atheist but wouldn't insult someone who choosers to believe in a creator.

To finish, several physicists have claimed that atheism is ignoring scientific method, most notably marcelo gleiser.

You remind me of a teacher at St Mary's College open prison. A Mr (General) Jackson he taught Maths and had a severe limp. His depth of knowledge was awesome way way above his pupils he never seemed to face the class.

Like you he could break down the issue, but for me he could of being talking Gaelic.

Cheers

Ah I'm not having this.
I'll break down your argument piece by piece.
The big bang isnt a theory it's the truth.
Before the big bang there was no space but a dense singularity.
Science is the truth. They dont assert things like religion, they test the finding like the Higgs boson particle hundreds of times before they say yes weve found it.
The earth is doomed even without human influence .The sun will get too hot and expand as the fuel runs out in a few million years time. Fact.
Gravity may be slowing down the expansion of the cosmos but black holes which are infinite gravity seem to recycle matter into future big bangs and new universes. The multiverse theory.
Believing in god without any evidence goes against rational thinking.
Science has for instance proved that praying is a waste of time through controlled experiments hundreds of times.
Conscience is in the physical brain . That's why when people get dementia they stop functioning. No spirit to override the illness.
Finally, Several physicists claiming atheists are ignoring scientific method vs how many thousand scientists who think otherwise.
Amen
