Red Bull breaching 2021 financial cap

I thought you weren't invested in F1 anymore and weren't watching it? Make your mind up lad ;)
That's a really, really weird take isn't it? Seeing as they I'm expanding so much energy arguing of how bad it has become. I know you're just on a wind up but it's an odd response. Just makes no sense.

I'm just referring to your comments before the season that you were finished with it and wouldn't be watching. Despite what happened last season you came back, wether it is like wrestling or not. And there is nothing wrong with that.

And yes, I am on the wind up. I get what you guys are saying but you all take it so seriously!! Us lot moaning won't change anything.

Pleased you are back watching the races though (y)

Who said I was watching races? I’ve spent the last week complaining about how they are manipulated. That’s the problem with blatant wind ups. They make no sense.

I suggest you step away from the thread. People are genuinely angry that a sport they love is being corrupted like this. It’s not the time or place for your “jokes”

Sorry to be harsh but your basically taking the mickey out of something people genuinely care about

I agree. It's like football and fans arguing over reffing. The two go hand in hand.
this is more like footy fans arguing over Derby's predicament last season. They couldn't wangle their way out in the end and had to take their punishment while all their fans made spurious claims of not really breaching the rules.

I asked you how they manipulated the last race and you didn’t respond.

How is Red Bull breaking the rules corruption? They’ve broke the rules, there’s a set of potential punishments and they’ll get one or multiple of them, that is not corruption. Maybe the punishments should be more clearly defined but if Red Bull only get a “public reprimand” nobody can complain about it because that’s in the potential punishment list.

I feel like people say what they would like to happen rather than what is written in the rules.

Of course people can complain if they get a "public reprimand" Which I assume they will. it makes a mockery of the rules. Makes then pointless

You can’t say you want the rules to be followed and then complain when the rules are followed. You can say the rules are ridiculous and I would agree.

I think the punishments should be more set in stone but they aren’t and that is not corruption.

If you aren't watching the races then how do you know the races are being manipulated? I've watched every one this season and haven't seen any real evidence of it. I will give you the last race of last season but there has been nothing on par with that this season.

I'm not taking the mickey out of anyone's anger - just reminding you in a light hearted way that you were ADAMANT you were done with the sport. But you are back. And that's good. ST, I am usually the first to call out people targeting you and we agree on many things, I just think here you are a bit (only a bit mind) over the top.

I spent about 2 weeks at the start of the season being told by you and others that I wasn't as good of a fan as you guys, that I should stick to wrestling etc etc so maybe you should have expected a light hearted ribbing at some point. If you are going to dish it out you have to expect some back at some point - and mine is tongue in cheek - yours (and others) wasn't, you guys were serious! "Get back to wrestling you non-fan Netflix watcher!" kinda stuff. I can take it though.

Anyway, no need to fall out. I understand you guys aren't happy.

You really are struggling to understand what I'm saying aren't you? I'm complaining about last year cheating. so the rest of your post has no logic. And i've explained to you the difference. We care about the sport, and care that it's being damaged. You don't so you can joke at it all you like. It's not cool to laugh at something people are angry about though

Or is it the interpretation of the rules? Football and VAR is a great example - we all see these things differently. As such we have the governing bodies to decide when a rule is broken and what the penalty would be. I just think that some F1 fans are 'rule geeks' and would rather moan over regulation 14.5.3 section c than watch a race and just enjoy the spectical.

I'm sure there are people like you describe. The tribal nature of football has made its way to F1 like never before, and F1 is worse off for this.

There are rules in place to ensure that the races that we watch and enjoy are supposedly fair and meaningful. It is therefore not unreasonable to expect rules to be followed and if necessary - to be enforced. Otherwise the race on Sunday is not a genuine spectacle.

Having said all that, I think that the way that this current story has developed has been an utter shambles. Leaks, rumours, blame, threats, complaining for about 2 weeks and we still do not know how much they have over spent and what the punishment will be. F1 portrays itself as this clinical and professional sport, but this story has shown that elements of it are an utter shambles.

I am not laughing about people being angry about that though. And I am not joking about the sport being damaged. I have a different opinion to you about the sport being damaged.

I was ribbing you in because you took the p155 out of me last year. I was joking - you were serious. But you don't like it so fair enough, I'll stop.

I think that become obvious at the end of last season, the sport hasn't recovered from that shambolic failure to apply its own rules, then attempted cover up before quietly sacking the guy who single handedly gifted the title

I agree with you there Steer. I did think the last race was a bit dodgy. Not sure what to make of the spending cap thing yet until the FIA dish out their punishment.

The tribal thing is interesting - but I haven't seen too much around teams, it just seems to be Hamilton for or against or I am a real fan, you are not. I'm not so keen on Lewis but I respect him as a driver. I just think the Merc dominance numbed me to him and the team. Probably relates back to when he switched to Merc in all fairness. I quite like Redbull, mainly because they are disrupters. Not sure if I am a real fan or not, I just like watching F1.

or "Max", he has the biggest fanboy base going, based on one gifted title.

He had a bit of a fanbase before but yes, his popularity would have increased after that. He's done fantastically well this season. Driver of the season so far for me is George Russell though.

Verstappens fanbase has been off the charts for a couple of years, yes it'll have increased after being gifted a title. Russell has had a great season, the biggest flop for me is LeClerc should be winning this or very close second but too many errors.

Agree - Ferrari just self imploded. All very strange!

Rules were broken and the punishment should fit the severity.

I do to find it hilarious that Aston Martin broke the cap and are still stuck towards the bottom of the pecking order.

Also, I don't agree with the price cap at all. Puts a severe restriction on development throughout the season. F1 is supposed to be the top tier of motorsports. Yet it's hamstrung every season. The financial cap hasn't made it easier for lower level teams to compete, the usual suspects are still finishing races where they have for by years.
