Private Number Plate

I totally disagree withbyou

It doesn't matter if most agree with you or not, you don't purchase things depending what others agree with or not, you buy things because you work for it, wanted it etc

I disagree, you say they're better phones out there, well I have everything I need on mine, including loads of data, WiFi wherever, cracking camera etc, but it's the phone that I wanted

Each to their own
Prof makes a good point. You really can't compare a private number plate to a mobile phone. Generally the more you pay for a phone the more functionality you get. A private number plate gives exactly the same functionality as the number plate you get free (assuming you buy used) when you buy a car

Our lass bought me a personal plate about 12 years ago for a Christmas present.
It relates to my name, birthday and the Boro.
I like it, and I don’t give two s**** if nobody else does.
it’s a personal choice after all.

Mine is the initial letter of my 1st name, my favourite No, which is also the same as my son & dad & UTB 👍

Few people just said they can’t understand the appeal

imagine people having an opinion on a message board eh
Yes, because that's totally what I said. There is a difference between saying "I can't understand the appeal" and talking about people being posers, getting belittled, saying people should be embarrassed about them, want to show off they have spare money etc. This isn't the first time they have been brought up on here and every time it goes down the same route.

I'm not sure about the phone and personal plate comparison.

I could have bought a number plate along the lines of R30 and my 3 initials for the price I went to a football match 😂 (I did stay over for 2 nights).

The amount we waste watching football is easily put into context. I probably spent £80-90 going to Derby on ticket and fuel. So I don't think buying a private plate is necessarily a a massive waste of money?

What’s private about them. Don’t you mean personalised?

Either way I think they’re the biggest waste of money, but each to their own.

Theres a Nissan Juke somewhere local with 8ORO 🤣🤦🏻‍♂️

I've got one, with the letters UTB in it.
Had it on my 14 year old saab, then changed cars so took it off.
It's currently on retention and has been for 3 years as can't be arsed with the form filling etc. Probably have to pay another 80 quid to reassign it as well.
I consider It to have been a bit of a waste of money, but each to their own.

I've got one, bought it for myself. It only cost £250 and it pretty much reads as my surname. Luckily my surname is pretty unusual so not much demand.

The main reason I bought mine was to hide the age of my car! 🤣 £80 to move it when you change cars every two or three years doesn't break the bank.

This thread is making me want one😂. I will blow £250 pound on all kinds of cr*p over months.

I'm taking from eating out to boozing/clothes etc. A private plate is definitely not a sign of wealth or pretentious. People will blow the same amount on anything.

Just like a person having a 50k car. It used to be a sign of wealth but now it probably means they pay £300+ a month pcp over 4 years and never own it. That's more 'oh look at me' 😂

A Jag came past me on the parkway a couple of weeks back, reg number was AN03 END, it had a space between the A&N, so quite deliberate. Made me chuckle 😁

Never wanted one personally, but don't see the harm in them. If you buy it because your an enthusiast about a particular car or make, want something personal or even if you want something related to your business then that's up to you.

It's a bit like naming your house Holly cottage instead of the house number. Utterly harmless but tells you a lot about the owner.
