Private Number Plate

I’ve never understood private licence plates. Don’t see the attraction at all
Aye. Never understood why people pay thousands of pounds for a little bit of plastic that people just take the **** out of. Especially when said posers are trying to spell something on their number plates and looks like something completely different 🤣

A private plate doesn't mean you have money or even spare money. You can pick them up pretty 'cheap' .

I've never had one and probably won't get one. I did look once and I can get my initials and random numbers for £250. I don't think thats crazy? I spent more than that on two nights in Blackpool and the footy with the missues. In hindsight I'd have preferred the plate😂

They 'work' when you can actually create something like a name. Used to work with a guy called Mel Sly who had MEL 51Y

Something i have noticed is that everyone who has a private number plate always seems to say their partner bought it for them.

They are too embarrassed to admit they bought it themselves and can't think up a valid reason for buying it other than being sad, so they just blame their partner.

Agree, my son & daughter bought mine for my 60th

I quite like them. Certainly don't really see anything wrong with them.

I saw a van recently, and the number plate was: OC11NTS. Technically not private I suppose, but they'd spaced it O C1_1NTS. Made me chuckle... but I guess it was my puerile sense of humour

I would have one if the missues buys it. I may show her this thread as my birthdays in September

Although God knows what I'd end up with😂

I do wish I'd bought one about 10 years ago when the DVLA sold it for the basic price. Looked like my surname and first initial. However, we were moving house at the time so every penny was a prisoner.

The only private plates which make me turn my nose up are the ones which need illegal fonts, spacing and screw placements to create a word which you still need to squint at to make it semi-legible.

It’s not really the same as spending extra on a phone is it? At least with the phone, you’re getting some useable benefit like better cameras or more memory. With a number plate, nothing changes except you get the cost and inconvenience of having to transfer it between vehicles every few years.

Of course it is, you can still pay a lot of money for a similar phone, I pay £11 a month, excellent camera, loads of memory, I know a few younger people who pay £30, £40 for a supposed better named phone, you're looking at it as a negative thing talking about inconveniences, I dont see it that way either

I've already told the mrs erimus that when we both retire & by a car between us she'll be driving around in a car with a Boro reg on

I disagree. I didn’t say you couldn’t get a reasonable phone at a low price or that some phones are not worth the expense. Your £11 phone might be great for the price, but better phones surely exist. You just don’t think they’re worth the additional cost.

A personalised number plate is not the same as there’s no tangible benefit. You then have to fill forms in and pay a fee to transfer it between vehicles. I’d call that an inconvenience and I think most would agree.

I totally disagree with you

It doesn't matter if most agree with you or not, you don't purchase things depending what others agree with or not, you buy things because you work for it, wanted it etc

I disagree, you say they're better phones out there, well I have everything I need on mine, including loads of data, WiFi wherever, cracking camera etc, but it's the phone that I wanted

Each to their own
