PM admitted to hospital

I don't think people are triggered. I think that lots of people are dying and the last thing we want to hear is more political invective about brexit. I think most people are sick to the back teeth of it. Give it a rest.

It would be a national tragedy If something happened to Boris. He is the countries leader and the country would descend into panic if he got seriously ill. Whether you like him or not you must see how he is a figure head for the virus, if he can show full recovery and come back to lead the country again, then it gives confidence to everyone.

I thought all of the petty politics bitching was left on the old site anyway, don’t be coming over and spoiling this one!

It is to be hoped that the experience teaches him and his party the value of both the NHS, experts, critical thinking and empiricism over ideology, not to mention a lesson in humility and that lies often come back to hurt you in the long run.

It appears to have already impacted Jeremy Hunt.

It’s about the PROCESS behind the decision making, not Brexit itself. Same errors.

'arrogance and stupidity, those hallmarks of brexiters'. You have called the majority of voters arrogant and stupid.

No, just 17.4 million. But it could easily apply to every single one of us on other issues. It’s just these are the two biggest events of the last 10 years and were failures in reasoning. Austerity and the financial crash, though clear failures, are not the same failures in reasoning, I would argue.

I should clarify, the ‘arrogance’ I apply only to the brexit cheerleaders, not to the 17.4m voters.

There a multiple posts you can get political on, it’s just inappropriate on a thread about the prime minister health to make it about politics on this particular thread

I see a few other whoppers followed suit

I’m left on the political scale, there’s a lot of ‘shortcummings’ in this government but they can be saved for another day or thread

what is the saying ‘if you don’t have anything nice to say, you should say nothing at all’ and i think that probably would apply to this thread

you complain about brexit cheerleaders, you are just the same as them, you are entrenched in your view cheerleading for your side.

It’s a tough one isn’t it. It’s hard to have sympathy for someone who shook hands with people and ignored his own social distancing rules.

mom the other hand, no man is an island entire of itself and I hope he gets better. Even if it’s just to face the wrath of a public enquiry after all this.

He got diagnosed 20 days after shaking hands so it’s very unlikely he caught it from that. He probably got it from coming into contact with people who are dealing with coronavirus while doing he’s job not because he supports Brexit

I find the situation slightly horrifying and can only wish him the best. His body must be exhausted now, given the raised heart rate for ten days. I read that it is like running a marathon 24/7.

Hopefully Chris Whitty's health is improving at the moment.

Imagine that its more serious than just a few tests that he is there for, surely blood tests etc could be done from his home

Seems it was a precaution because his temperature hasn’t gone down but his symptoms haven’t got worse. That’s good news.

I hope he gets well soon and I wouldn’t wish the illness on anyone but my sympathy is tempered, not by the party he represents or his political ideology, but quite simply based on how he himself acted and flaunted the rules that he put in place, even some of the his closest allies in the press were critical of what they saw going on behind closed doors, his lack of social distancing, the unnecessary face to face meetings, continuing to shake hands, in the 36 hours between his first symptoms and being tested positive he held 11 face to face meetings and has put everyone who attended them at risk.

I can’t help but feel that Johnson’s hubris has contributed to his own illness and that he should have been more diligent in following his own guidelines, he may well have contracted the virus anyway but if other people had continued with the same culture of behave as the PM they would have had the finger of irresponsibility pointed at them too.

I repeat I hope he makes a speedy recovery and my criticism is of his actions as a person and in no way relate to his politics. This post isn’t intended to offend and I wish strength to all those who are suffering or know someone who is suffering.

Stay safe.

He's the Prime Minister, leading a cabinet with people like Gove in it who have signed up to wanting rid of the NHS and you don't want to make it about politics? Everything about it is political.

boris/queen/charles etc pegging it is no more/less important/sad than auntie flo down the road pegging it (for me). the only issue is it'll shove someone even worse in power sooner than it should, but I'm not sure that it makes any difference tbh.

I have been thinking about the best way of phrasing this. I hope people think this is an ok response.

You could probably put a plaque up saying the following in every place he has visited in his life "Here lies Boris Johnson."

The one place I do not want to see this phrase is on a gravestone.

I would not wish this illness or death on anyone.

I don't get why should it not be political? They guy is the head of the country, effectively the head of politics. His entire life is political and he should have been setting the best example. The actions of him shaking hands with people with the virus is what has probably caused his situation for him, and blasé actions of people in the low risk groups like him are what is killing loads of people more at risk.

Some of the politics/ previous decisions aren't to do with Johnson, but a lot are, and now he's the figurehead, which he wanted. A lot of the problems we're facing now is because of the party he is currently leading.

Just because you get sick (not currently life threatening as it appears, thankfully), does not absolve you of any previous bad decisions, especially not those that have already cost thousands of lives. Poor pandemic planning, lack of PPE, lack of testing, NHS cuts, wage cuts, foreign nurses leaving, being so blase, which results in other idiots being blase etc etc.

I don't for one second want him to stay ill, I want him to get better, and much, much more so his partner and unborn kid. But even more than that I wish the sick doctors and nurses over at James Cook to get better, as they've been put in this situation by other peoples awful decisions from above, and some of the public acting like ****..

He needs to rest and stop with the long days working from "home", as it's not doing him, his family or the UK any favours.
