Not a single mask...

Why not just wear one all of the time to protect everyone else, instead of waiting until its forced? Nothing about the virus suddenly changes on Friday.
Has a policy of safe disposal been sorted yet? That in itself could lead to lots of problems

Properly worn disposable masks might (and only might) be effective in preventing outward transmission ... but only if they are used correctly which, in about 90% of cases I see, they aren't. They actually can become an infection risk if they become moist (this may lead them to be a gateway to infection) and also if they are improperly handled when removed. A build up/concentration of virus can then be transferred onto other surfaces.
I wear one for work and in shops. I don't believe they are doing much to reduce infection but I do think that they make people more confident in shops .... maybe over-confident in some cases.

As a health and safety manager I've had to have extensive training in covid infection control this last few months. By far and away the most important practices are distancing and scrupulous hand hygiene.

I’m in Spain atm, mask wearing is compulsory in shops, so I wear one, I feel much less safe in the shops than I did in the UK, it’s a free for all, everyone just pulls out the same owld rag when they go into the shops to strap on their face, and then don’t feel any need to social distance Because of the protection of said rag. If you think it will be any different in the UK you’re kidding yourself. This is a mistake, I get the argument about worn and discorrectly, it’s not going to happen though, so practically we’ll be better off without them.

Good news is La Geria is on offer in the supermarket (y)

I hope so, I don't hold out much hope. As coluka states, they are supposed to be mandatory on buses and a depressing amount don't wear them.

It really does make me despair about this country. When did we become so ignorant?
You may have a point there. Folk voting Tory!

So you are happy going out knowing you may be asymptomatic, and spreading it to others until its actually law that you cant? Just because it makes you a bit hot?
I don't believe wearing masks has been recommended for outside?

I think we've always been a nation where a big majority of I'm all right ignorant Jacks, live within us, this pandemic has just highlighted how bad it is out there

It is not like that in all of Spain. Just about the only shop I go to is the local Mercadona. Everyone has to wear masks. Plus disposable plastic gloves (normally used for picking up fruit etc.). The people on the checkout watch people coming in to make sure they wear both a mask and free disposable gloves. In the shop the vast majority of people are pretty good at social distancing. There is still the odd idiot though.

Spanishman I’m in Lanzarote, not mainland, maybe the locals feel safe because it hasn’t existed here really very much. I still think the mask theory is good, but practical application will be bad And the justification is dubious which is why the government didn’t bother for four months.

It is the opposite for me. During lock down where I lived was one of the safest place to be.

Since the release from lock down my region (Almería) has had the biggest increase in numbers in Andalucía (most of the southern coast of Spain - apart from Murcia in the right hand corner).

We are nowhere near the worst place in the country. However it has caused a lot of people to behave more carefully. So as you say, having it happen close to you might make a difference.

Won't make a jot of difference whether I wear one or not.

I sterilise my hands frequently, I avoid standing close to anyone when shopping, I definitely don't cougth and sneeze in public and I don't have it.

I'm in a very low incidence area, and it's not the brief contact in supermarkets where this virus is spreading.
I'm more at risk at work than shopping, but I'll follow the law.

how do you know you don’t have it and just aren’t showing symptoms? Are you taking a test every time you leave the house? If not you have absolutely no idea if you have it or not and could be passing it onto anyone

Exactly. Those claiming users on here will "kill people" because they haven't been wearing a mask is quite frankly disgusting behaviour.

Wonder if those same people would be saying the same even though they weren't wearing masks in January, February and March possibly infecting hundreds.

Disgusting behaviour? Wow
A young person may have the virus without even knowing it and be going around infecting others who it may kill without even knowing.
I’d say it’s more disgusting that people know this but still refuse to wear a mask until they absolutely have to.
It’s something you won’t even notice that you can pick up for 50p, it’s hardly asking much of people

Do you have that same opinion of people who cannot wear them for reasons?

I think everybody would be fine with my choice of mask/helmet. Even those with physical and mental reasons not to.

of course not, if wearing one is going to cause you health problems then thats completely counterproductive, which is why there are exemptions.

Yeah any face covering is better than nothing, think it will be pretty difficult to get hold of the proper hospital issue masks, but again anything people can get will help.

Well, Teesside Park was heaving this afternoon. Marksies had a fair number of mask wearer's, certainly not the majority though.
B & Q and Go-outdoors were largely maskless, save for myself of course.

I hope the CCTV operators and supermarket security guards have had extra training to determine the bad guys from the good guys.

The exempt list makes for interesting reading.

Going to be a strange 6-12 months that's for certain.

I genuinely can't see it working. This country has too many selfish idiots.

I'm actually surprised how many selfish, self serving, ignorant people there are in this country.
