Not a single mask...

Extremely powerful interview with the brother of a Covid victim who was only 32 and no health problems who died within 7 days of contracting it. On 5 Live his call was replayed and he pleaded prople not to be selfish and to protect others. Sure if you have exemption fair enough but its not a big deal to wear one and you are doing your bit to prevent problems in the future.

I am actually. The extent of the selfishness. Also the vehemence with which people defend their selfish and self centred decisions has shocked me. Really depressingly shocked me.

Staggered that this is ‘new news’. ‘I’m all right jack’ is a phrase from the 50’s which is used often for a reason.

I wonder how many shops will be selling masks?
I've seen them in B&Q and Aldi. Not seen them for sale in Morrisons and haven't been in The ASDA* or The Tesco* to check.

Went down town in my mask, won't be going down again.

Still feeling a bit dizzy 20 minutes after removing my mask. Roasting and my face was damp when I removed it, though my beard will have played a part in that.
This is on a relatively chilly day too.

I think I'll go ln my weekly big shop with a mask, but can't see me going anywhere else until the restrictions are lifted.
Internet shopping it is.

I've been wearing one at work in 30°c humid heat. It's not pleasant at all. That's just my personal experience by the way before Smalltown rocks up and starts throwing selfish accusations around the joint.
The government had a perfect chance to make mask wearing mandatory for shop workers aswell but hasn't for reasons I do not know.

Did you know pilots don't have them in shops. Bizarre.

It takes some getting used to I admit. I've been wearing mine for a month now but it's become second nature.

I've been ok with mine to be honest, it's one I use when I'm mountain biking so is a snug fit and has vents in but also a N99 filter, so I've just got plenty of filters to change it regularly

I was asked to put on one of the paper type ones in a furniture store a couple of weekends ago and on that warm day it was very uncomfortable

My local Tesco's ( a little one) had them in abundance until the announcement that we would all have to wear them. So people will always horde*.

I'd rather not have to wear a mask but in the end it's nothing more than little bit of minor unpleasantness for most people and if that's for the long-term good then you are being pretty anti-social if you refuse to wear one. What gets me most though is that people don't know how to wear them properly. A large percentage have their nostrils poking over the top, for instance. Whatever happened to good old public information films? The tories got rid of the unit that produced them, that's what. And I popped into Waterloo station this morning (I wanted to use one of the shops there). There weren't many people around but a few weren't wearing masks and then one bloke approached one of the information stands wearing a mask and pulled it down to speak to the person on the stand. Pillock.

Maybe it's more concentrated now. When that selfishness is helping spread a deadly disease?

ST all the way through the benefit of masks had been played down. It was completely optional, and most people chose not to. Fair play that you decided to, but I don't think people have been quite as selfish as you say.

Now that they're mandatory it's a different matter. If everyone wears them it'll make a bigger difference (rather than only 10% wearing them). I was in the supermarket this morning, and everyone was wearing them. (y)(y)

People vehemently and strongly complain about wearing masks and it's known that it helps stopping you spread the disease to others. It provides little benefit to yourself, but can really help others. That's why I think it's inherently selfish.

I must admit to being surprised, all bar one of the customers in Sainsbury's today were wearing one. Maybe I'm wrong in this. It's just a really shame it had to become mandatory, a shame people in this country couldn't just be trusted to do the right thing.

FWIW I do think it should have been mandatory sooner. There wasn't much downside to making it mandatory really.

Edit: I know you're right about masks and spread. That's why they culturally wear them in Asia, to stop spreading germs to other people. It just has limited impact if only 10% do it. Getting used to them being mandatory before the winter will be a good thing!

Kudos on the wordplay btw.

This thing happens all the time at work. Thankfully I know the serial offenders of the pull the mask Dow to talk maneuver so it is easy to keep out of the firing line.

I have an Airsoft/paintball mask on order which should be arriving next week. Going to make the next few months or god forbid years a bit more fun. No shop is going to ask people to take off their face covering.
I have seen two guys over here in France wearing them. Not an issue.

I’ve also just been to the local market, everyone had face coverings on. Earlier this week, I was sat outside at a cafe and a guy entered the bar without his mask. The owner shouted at him to get out and put his mask on. He immediately did.

Did you call the person out for not wearing a mask? A polite reminder could have helped put everybody else in the store at ease.
