Middlesbrough Supporters Forum - Monday

In reply to Scrug - As I have said many times - no one is going to sit around a table and feel uninhibited with what they are going to say if everything is recorded for people to rip apart word by word afterwards. And don't tell me people wouldn't be tempted. It is really sad to say this but is unfortunately true. And remember this a supporters forum it is not a council meeting or houses of parliament.

How do you know no one looked at the minutes? I am exaggerating - but there was no thread on here with a countdown to publication. And afterwards the debate started long afterwards.
They will be out tomorrow - surely that will be OK won't it? I was under the impression when meetings weren't ratified by everyone that they were not published until after the nest meeting. First point no the agenda, are the minutes of the last meeting a fair and true record?? Then they are available. Maybe I am wrong but that is how I thought it usually happened. MSF wanted to make sure minutes were out more promptly than that but if someone is ill, on holiday or otherwise absent then it can be best to wait, especially if you do want to check something with them. For me it would be worst to publish something really inaccurate and then have to correct it. What happens is the first version is remembered the correction never has the same impact.
No wonder you get in so well with the club Rob, the similarities in approach are striking - everything is great, the fans are wrong and completely unreasonable.

OK as an experiment why don't I allow you to change your username to your real name for a week. And you post under your real name for that time. And maybe someone doesn't like something you say and turns up at your office gates. etc.

Yeah that would definitely work - none of the people using social media use their real name do they?

No they dont. And maybe they can wait a week for minutes
Yeah you’re definitely right Rob, screw those fans - they’re all wrong aren’t they. The club is perfect and always has been as is MSF - there’s no possible valid criticism is there?

I think it might be time for a proper supporters trust at Boro. Something with an actual voice that fans can contribute to. It would need to be more inclusive - for example have meetings on teams. Agree key terms of reference and objectives of the group. And anyone can stand for being a rep.

The stick Rob and others get isn't fair but is due to being the only person we know we can raise things with.

I think this needs to be discussed. If the club aren't interested, the question is why?

We must be one of the worse clubs for fan engagement and involvement in decision making on things that matters to us.

So what’s the point? Besides it’s SUPPOSED to be the voice of the fans.. not a curated watered down version of what MSF thinks MFC wants to hear.
if everything is recorded for people to rip apart word by word afterwards.
If nothing is recorded it will get ripped apart as well.
And don't tell me people wouldn't be tempted. It is really sad to say this but is unfortunately true.
People say things.. you yourself have said things so.. it is what it is
And remember this a supporters forum it is not a council meeting or houses of parliament.
I think MSF needs to remember that it is a supporter forum!

How do you know no one looked at the minutes? I am exaggerating - but there was no thread on here with a countdown to publication.
That means that the fans are not engaging with the forum. It’s not a sign that it’s doing well.. it’s a sign that it’s not doing very well.
You seem a bit peeved that people are taking notice and want to know what is going on. Your time would be better spent served getting the minutes out rather than spitting your dummy out.
And afterwards the debate started long afterwards.
They will be out tomorrow - surely that will be OK won't it?
Again with the stroppy attitude! You could have just said they would be out in a week rather than saying no one has been bothered about them before.. giving the impress that you didn’t think it really mattered.
I was under the impression when meetings weren't ratified by everyone that they were not published until after the next meeting. First point on the agenda, are the minutes of the last meeting a fair and true record?? Then they are available. Maybe I am wrong but that is how I thought it usually happened. MSF wanted to make sure minutes were out more promptly than that but if someone is ill, on holiday or otherwise absent then it can be best to wait, especially if you do want to check something with them.
Nah keep it simple.. if someone is ill or away.. don’t have them doing the minutes.
For me it would be worst to publish something really inaccurate and then have to correct it. What happens is the first version is remembered the correction never has the same impact.
It’s not that hard tho is it.

So.. tagging people into stuff on social media and posting twitter handles on here would be a bad thing then?

Hmm.. interesting take.

Come on people, Rob gives his own free time to play his part. I’m not sure why people feel so entitled. People can take things up with the club directly if they feel so strongly about a subject.

The club has far more supporters than post on here, not everything that people seem concerned about will bother everyone. I get that it is called supporters forum, if people feel strongly that they want a subject discussed, the forum could end up with hundreds of matters that would be impossible to progress. The club is a private business not a public body. You don’t have voting rights other than through your wallet and feet.

The club has an offering and a process for engaging with fans, if you don’t like he process, put forward one you would like to see in detail and where and how the membership should come from for the club and the current forum to consider, but do so in a constructive and decent manner. Those currently taking part do not deserve abuse from anyone, we supporters should be glad Rob and others play their active part and give their time on our behalf.

If we post under our real names does that mean we get to join MSF?

Rob - if Sunderland can provide WI-FI at the SOL can Boro do the same at the Riverside? There is Wi-Fi for hospitality so should it be hard to extend it.

Am meaning one reason why people may not be keen on meetings being streamed.
Minutes will be published tomorrow. Safe standing info also that I hope people find interesting.
Sorry, I am unable to publish tonight.

A trust is a great idea but needs to spring from the fans not the club. There is plenty of support out there if you were interested in starting. It

So they want to avoid being held to their word.
That’s life, be open and honest. If fans like it, great, if they don’t, then at least you get an honest discourse. Without that, there’s always going to be a divide.

That says it all really.

No interest in transparency, only carefully curated placation. MSF are apparently the vehicle for that.

That’s fine, but please don’t pretend that MSF is the voice of the fans anymore and just enjoy the inner circle. You’ve earned it.

You can apply to join the MSF you know?

Set up a Concerned Posters group and start going.
