Messi - officially on the market

His love of Barca obviously doesn't extend to taking a substantial pay cut, whilst likely still remaining one of the best paid players in the world.

After making hundreds of millions through Barca he's now still chasing the money rather than stick with the club he loves.

I don't think this will be a popular opinion but I think it shows him in a very bad light.
Messi agreed to a 50% pay cut when a contract renewal was negotiated last month. The problem Barca had was that La Liga enforced controls due to their financial situation, which means Barca had to offload players before they can register new ones.

He could play for virtually nothing and still be one of the richest sportsmen in history, whilst cementing his legendary status and giving something back to the club he professes to love.

He hasn't, he's gone chasing more riches.

Reminds me of the way Cantona left Leeds with Chapman telling Howard Wilkinson it's either me or Cantona your choice.

Has Braithwaite issued a similar ultimatum, is either me or the Argentinean???

It doesn't reflect well on Messi because he doesn't play for free? I've heard it all now. :ROFLMAO:

Somewhat misrepresenting the point I'm making but never mind, I'm sure you'll tell me that it's unintentional.

He'll have less time on the ball than he's ever had if he comes to the Prem.
Wonder how he'll cope with a wet winters Wednesday night away to Brentford.
Plus he's had his own way being the king at his club his whole career.

‘Giving something back’ like he hasn’t give them enough. Way they treated him last summer was shocking too, he still performed outstanding last season. Give the guy a break, he owes that club nothing.

Even after that announcement I still can’t quite believe he’ll leave until I see him wearing another teams shirt.
I also echo those saying hope it’s not PSG.

I know he's been a free agent for a while but Barca have just put out a statement that he won't be staying. So who will he be joining? Man City? PSG? Or someone else?

Man City. They'll wait on Haaland until his buyout clause reduces.

Right, apparently we've got six million to spend. That works out at £115,384.62p per week for a years contract. Get Leo and Bauser to Barca. As soon as he hears of our tradition of South American flair married to British grit he'll be right over. Q

I see. So when you claimed he wasn't taking a "taking a substantial pay cut", which is untrue, that he was "chasing money" and all this "shows him in a very bad light". You didn't actually mean this.
He literally generates more revenue for the club than he takes out in salary. They waste this money paying stupid fees and stupid salaries on players and managers that offer them nothing. He gave them a chance to sell him last season and they declined. They've now continued to bring in players despite not really being able to afford so. He's agreed to a new deal at 50% which they okayed and have now been prevented from going ahead because of La Liga rules, and the bad guy in all of this is Messi.

I can see it now Messi loan striker, keeper smashing the ball long, messi not challenging, fans booing him. Lazy argentinian. Why cant we sign someone who suits our style.
