Messi - officially on the market

I don’t buy the whole ‘it’s a shame the two parties can’t have what they want’, if he wanted it that much, surely he would just take the reduction that would let it through? Or have I misunderstood?

He’ll end up at PSG, don’t think he’d fancy the Premier League at the twilight of his career. Shame.
He can’t even play for free under these regulations.

club won’t even finish in the top 4 this season, it’s only messi that’s been holding them together for the last five years

The contract between Messi and Barca was agreed upon. Barca however find themselves in a situation where they can't register news players because of financial regulations enforced by La Liga. This was supposed to be resolved yesterday due to some investment fund buying a stake in the league, which would have provided a windfall to clubs. Real Madrid have seemingly vetoed it meaning Barca cannot actually offer Messi said contract. Yet.

Come on. This is a club the regularly goes public trying to coerce and manipulate their fans and the media. Everything from the questionable pursuit of players, legal action, smearing their own players with underhand social media campaigns, discrediting rivals.
True but not about their own players that’s the difference and not about the prized assets this is very unlike Barcelona.

He did take a huge paycut but it was all to be paid much further down the line. The problem was getting around the La Liga rules on finances. Although maybe this is just a ploy to force Tebas's hand so that they add all the players they want. Everyone knows how obsessed he is with Man City and PSG that he'd bend any rule to stop them getting his prized asset.
Yeah I agree.

He doesn't want to leave, Barca don't want him to leave and with a bit of reflection La Liga will not want their most marketable star by far to leave.

I reckon this is hardball and will be cleaned up in a week, probably with Madrid and Barca getting an exemption from the salary caps.

It wouldn’t shock me if he just played for 3 yrs and got his contract over 6 yrs to try and comply . It’s not like he needs the money immediately.
you’d think someone that’s regarded as the world’s best player by many would want to test himself in the worlds best league if he was leaving Spain.

Why? Just looking at his stats against the top 6 English sides; 26 goals and 6 assists in 34 games suggests he would be the stand out player in this league.

I agree, he'd be effective in any league, you don't get the record he has from being a flash in the pan.

La Liga, Internationally, Champions League, all at a very high standard too, it's not like he's only done it in the Mongolian second Division against Goat Herders United.

Those that say he wouldn't cut it over here are ignoring a huge body of evidence.

.
Wonder how he'll cope with a wet winters Wednesday night away to Brentford.
I’m sorry mate but we here this so many times and I always find it’s the most ridiculous statement in football.
“It’s all very well and good saying he’s a good player but can he do the job at boundary park I. February?” Yes, yes he can

Hopefully Gibbo is on the phone asking Messi if he fancies owning a project club with a great record in Europe who already own his heir apparent in the national team.

;) ;) ;)
