Matt Clarke

It hardly seems the most pressing matter though - last season we were joint 8th for goals against and joint 10th for goals scored. Nobody who finished above us scored fewer goals. Luton conceded more but finished 5 points better off.

We seem to have ripped up what was a solid defensive unit on a point of principle, and its hard to see how a left CB will add many more goals. I find it difficult to believe that just adding a bloke who is left footed will make us better at the back and going forward.
You attack as a unit just like you defend as a unit. Yes we didn't let too many goals in last season, but we didn't score enough and part of that was the role of our defenders int eh build up. If your defenders are too slow at passing it invites the press and passing errors. If your defenders include right footers on the left, then the down the line pass will have the wrong shape and bend out of play, if they over or underlap, they have to play the cross with a weak foot or they have to check back losing that vital moment where the opposition haven't reacted. Football is a game of where small advantages over the course of a season can make huge differences.

None of these hard looking football baldies would have dared take on the ultimate scary football baldy, ref Pierreluigi Collini

Different rules in the prem, plus if they've spent 130m on players on 4 year contracts, then that's 'only' 32m a season amortised. If they get relegated they could handle that for 2 years, but would need to sell to buy. If they go down and fail to go back up in 2 seasons, the parachute money will be drying up and they will need a firesale.
Yes and that’s a huge risk if it goes wrong but they are taking that risk. Deep pockets helps Plus the lack of caution reflects an owner who hasn’t got a “personal investment” in the long term health of the club if he is willing to expose it as the owners of a Leeds and Derby did with their clubs to devastating effect.

It was amusing yesterday. Being down here near Portsmouth.

I had a pompey fan I work with telling me he's a great player (although based on league 1). Also rubbing his hands as they have a sell on clause.

I can't wait to break it to him that they are getting nothing😂. They sold for 4mil and the sell on clause is for any profit on 4mil. Although he's probably already read it in the Pompey News.

I'm getting the feeling that there is an issue with this transfer going ahead. I thought there might have been an official announcement by now.

Or am I being impatient??

They're having to sober him up before they announce him and do his video.

He went for a 'quiet' pint with Leo at tea time yesterday and they ended up in The Pig Iron. Leo sang Pulp - Disco 2000 apparently.
