From the outside looking in we are an absolute shambles

If the Tavernier news is true, which I have no doubt is now it is being widely reported across various news outlets, then we are in an absolutely shocking state 72 hours before the season starts.

We play a formation they features 3 central midfielders and two strikers, let have left the squad in the position of having 3 senior central midfielders and 2 senior strikers at the club, one of whom wasn’t even given a squad number last week.

How anybody can think this is even close to being satisfactory is staggering.

God knows what Wilder must be thinking as I don’t for one minute believe he would have signed up to bring in this position with 3 days to go.

Our stated ambition is to be promoted, yet we are million miles off being ready for a promotion challenge.
The players we've brought in look wise additions and we'll get more in. Other than being light up top we'll be still putting out a strong looking team Vs WBA with more additions certain to follow. Nobody looking in will think we're a shambles, especially WBA

Of course we'd have liked everything in place by now but things don't work out like that. It's not ideal but I'd imagine the squad will look good by the end of the window

The thing is we need a player that is equal to or better than Tav, how many other clubs are going to be stupid enough to give away their best player(s) once the season has started? Can anyone see us buying a good first-teamer from another championship club at this point?
If the money is right teams will sell

I dunno. Life’s too short to care that much about the state of the Boro. As long as we exist and we’re not awful (last got a bit worried under Woodgate. Well, more than a bit maybe).

As long as I can go to games, entertainment on the pitch is decent, there is beer and food. I’m happy.

We ain’t going to challenge near the top of the Prem, why worry about getting there.

Am I too old for this **** - maybe!
🙂

The squad is actually better than it was last season . We lose about 15 goals from the strikers that left . I think wel replace them by the time the windows closed . What’s happening now is no different to what happens any other season for most clubs there’s no point moaning about it until the windows closed

Maybe we are not a shambles just short of cash
I don't think we are, or no more than anyone else, the market is just slow and we're trying to get decent quality in, like everyone else. I think you''ll see things start to move across all clubs over the next few weeks

No - not unless we pay over the odds

Lol well we will

Other sides look after their own interests before sell key assets but no not us.
Is that really true though?
It's frustrating but far from unusual. Pretty much the norm I'd say.
Hopefully however we have agreed to it with a plan in place

These things happen regularly. Clubs in higher divisions buy players from lower down the ladder. That does not make the club a shambles, even if it is far from ideal,

Think it’s the lack of foresight that this would happen. Allowing yourself to start a season with 3 first team midfielders and 2 strikers. Slightly shambolic. We would be pointing and laughing if this was up the road.

It's really not that bad. The window is open for nearly 5 weeks

Yes it's not ideal. Yet look at the state of other clubs. You don't see anyone buying. The prem clubs are yet to submit squads so we are waiting on them. That could go right up to the 31st Aug.

What can we do with these prem forwards? We can't make them loan them out. Unless we buy them replacements 😂

Judge the squad on the 1st of Sep. You can fudge a way through August and still make up any lost ground. I'd say our starting 11 is still enough to compete against most champo sides.

The squad is very thin. Yet we've trimmed it by losing players who contributed nothing last season. I imagine the wage bill is slashed so we can bring in these loans.

It's not the end of August though, they may well get us through the next few weeks
True but the OP is correct with the thread title. We are being tipped as one of the favourites to go up, but looking at the squad now that looks pie in the sky. We all know goals are our problem, and that problem is no where near being solved, and on top of that we look like losing our best midfielder, who is influential both defensively and offensively, on the eve of the new season - if i was Wilder I’d be fuming and rightly asking what our recruitment team have been doing since May.
