Since lockdown started we’ve wandered around our local area, walking all the public footpaths and discovering new dog walking routes.
We’ve seen deer, hares, red kites, streams for the dog to jump in and that’s within 3 miles of the house.
Anyone discovered any hidden gems around their way?
Harry - I tried desperately to get to the top of buttertubs [but it was into a headwind] so I had to get off and admire the view
Beautifully put AMWe are lucky to live in such a diverse and wonderful area, coast and countryside, the moors and the Dales, places that have played a key part in shaping history, the castles, the cathedrals, the abbeys and the bridges, modern art and a unique industrial landscapes, rivers and hills, quaint towns and unspoilt villages, rural outposts and city centres, I have been lucky enough to have seen a few places in my time but I think we vastly overlook what bounty we have at hand, it will always be home and the place that has made me the person I am, love, laughter and loss entwined with the fabric of here.
My favourite place....well it’s an ordinary house, in an ordinary place and it’s where all I love lives, the rest could change by season or whim or weather or company kept but that place is a constant and remains forever special.

I wasnt born in Yorkshire, but without doubt it is "Gods Own Country"Morning Coluka, my fave is also where I live in Swaledale (Richmond). The route from Richmond to Reeth on either side of the Swale is fantastic on foot or in car. Then all the way up through Gunnerside, Muker, Thwaite and even as far as Keld. It is wonderful. Pop over Buttertubs to Hardraw and Hawes and back down lovely Wensleydale through Leyburn; or pop over top to Tann Hill and then back down to Reeth through Arkengarthdale.
I also love Wharfedale all the way down to Bolton Abbey, it is glorious, but is of course West Riding, as is Ripon.
I like the NY Moors but personally find them bleaker than the Dales. That said the NY Railway is utterly fantastic and Helmsley is a lovely place.
Whitby is iconic for a reason - a gem.
The Coast though; I'd rather head that bit further for us and get up to Northumberland. Bamburgh is just fantastic.
And for us just an hour west of Richmond is Ullswater.
We are so unbelievably lucky with what is just an hour or so from us.
And on a day like this...
