Favourite place in North Yorkshire?

I agree Scuzzmonster and I am there now.
It's 9.5 miles yon side of Northallerton and retains the North Yorkshire class that we all remember.
It still has a bank (Barclays) and the beautiful library is run by residents. There are several great pubs and Bedale hasn't flooded while I've been here.
A very nice place to live.

I'd say Bedale because my Nana and Grandad lived there at the end of their lives so am biased but would probably plump for somewhere coastal like Staithes, Runswick Bay or Whitby eventually. That's the joy of North Yorkshire - so many beautiful spots.

Love Saltburn, Knaresborough, Masham/Ripon, all the waterfalls, the Dales, the Moors, the coastline, the people. Miss them all. As Brian Blessed said, "I love Yorkshire. I shrink when I leave it"

Heartwarming to read this as I live away from the area.
When we do return I favour the Redmire/Aysgarth/Hawes route. Lovely walk along the falls from Aysgarth to Redmire.
But …………….. loads to choose from

Brimham Rocks never fails to amaze me, and we've been going for years. The kids loved it when they were younger.
There are so many treasures in North Yorkshire, little wonder it's an area of outstanding natural beauty from Whitby and all along that coastline starting at Redcar, to Malham Tarn and all points in between.

A19 north carriageway.

Some gorgeous places in North Yorkshire, far too many to remember until you stumnle upon them or hear mention of them again, both coast and country.

The Esk valley and surrounding area is a favourite for me. So many different spots in a small area and within very easy reach of Teesside.

One thing that blows my mind about North Yorks, there's a little place called Kirk Smeaton which is 15 miles from Barnsley (South Yorkshire), which is in North Yorkshire! Its 74 miles from Teessaurus Park.
Yeah, I have an aunt & uncle in Selby and still struggle to get my head around the idea it's in the same county as Boro.

It's bizarre that the government decided to chop them off from the West Riding and lump them in with the North, it doesn't look right on a map and they're still heavily economically tied to West Yorkshire.

Yes, to be pedantic, have Selby and Middlesbrough ever been in the same 'administrative' county?

And yes I do wonder why Selby and its surroundings were somehow moved into NY despite being quite clearly in West Yorkshire geographically.

Didnt say it was, I just said I loved it, used to go quite often as a kid. Brid was lovely, Sewerby park, Danes Dyke and the Car Museum in Hornsea were great as a little lad.
Always liked Flamborough Head, and I know its not in the North Riding.

The Ship and a walk on the pier in Saltburn, Whitby for fish and chips and fresh kippers, a lemon top in Redcar, a walk down to the beach at Robin Hoods Bay, North Yorks Moors Railway, Richmond, Reeth and High Force.

Very difficult this but I think the route of the Cleveland Way picks up a lot of the favourite spots and the Esk Valley line to Whitby is like a doorway into a different world.

I know I’m biased but how lucky are we that this is on our doorstep?
