As we are part of the North Riding what's your favourite location?

I realise Ticker_Tape and others will be annoyed as they are in the primarily Sunderland leaning and Land of the Prince Bishops area, however those of us from the right side of the river - any favourite spots?

Fountains Abbey, Helmsley, Whitby, Malham Cove? Any hidden gems?

Im actually from south of the river. And my family built Middlesbrough for £12.7' before Henry Bolock set the place on fire. We left when the Tees froze over in the summer of 62 and skated into Durham. My dad wasnt a prince bishop but helped them out when the police arrived. Favourite place in the North Riding.......anywhere from Redcar to Scarboro, spent my childhood on coast my dad took us to every part of it I still get a buzz driving the moors and then seeing the sea.

Whitby - fish n chips at Trenchers - yes tried the Magpie a few times but always come back to Trenchers, Then a walk around the charity shops - easi;y pleased

Walk from Captains Cook Monument over the moors to Roseberry Topping

Saltburn - great walk along the beach , cliff tram a local treasure

NYMR - grosmont to whitby - sunday lunch treat if ya lucky

Helmsley - Nights stay in the Black Swan on the market square - if only just for the wonderful local produce breaky

steam trains on the North Yorkshire moors railway between Whitby and Pickering where I am a driver.

I'm often in Pickering as my daughter lives there. Decades ago when I worked for the NYMNP I was part of a group sent to rescue a school party that was stranded by deep snow at Newtondale Halt which is still a spot I like to visit. As I was a photographer I was allowed to ride outside on the front of the train and I'll never forget the ride as we cut through deep virgin snow. You're lucky to have such a great hobby/job.

I'd say Bedale because my Nana and Grandad lived there at the end of their lives so am biased but would probably plump for somewhere coastal like Staithes, Runswick Bay or Whitby eventually. That's the joy of North Yorkshire - so many beautiful spots.
