European Super League to be announced tonight - 9:30pm

I'm sorry but this is not Sky, before Sky English football was on the bones of its preverbials. As much as we look back with rose tinted glasses, no live games before Christmas was rubbish, the same teams being on TV week in week out was rubbish, the toilets for women in the Holgate were rubbish. Sky, to coin a phrase brought a whole new game to football. Yes it's gone to far now but let's not pretend football as a entity was better before Sky.
Well said. Sky Sports get lots of stick, but as an organisation they've been brilliant for all sport in this country. I say that as someone who dislikes Rupert Murdoch and all he stands for too.

I hope the German clubs and specifically Bayern Munich don't get involved in this. How can a so called "Super League" be that without arguably the best European club side anyway.

I must me missing the point here - why is this such a bad thing - it’s a midweek thing and will just replace the champions league or is it more than that?
It seems the people / organisations getting upset are upset just because they won’t be lining their pockets? Seeing the threats bandied around already is normally a good sign that it’s all about money.

can someone explain why this is such a bad thing?

I'll be interested to see some players comments from those clubs. The idea they can never play for their country again and be absolutely hated if they support the move to the european league by the fans in their own city.
In the city their franchise currently plays in.

Judging by your username you probably wouldn't understand.

I don’t get how you don’t understand.

People need to remember that in the run up to the formation of the Premier League Spurs hadn`t won the League for 30 years either, same applies here

Money has talked, not titles.

This is all about creating a closed shop with guaranteed income, the likes of Leicester and West Ham challenging for Top 4 is costing them hundreds of millions of pounds.

They want to remove the competition.

For me - withhold their prize money, deduct points from them and strip them of their titles. This needs stamping out.

Shocking think they can pick up a guaranteed 300 mill every season and then still continue in there respective domestic leagues. How on earth would that be fair on the other clubs?
Exactly the point you, me and thousands of others have made on twitter overnight.

Telegraph are apparently reporting that the premier league will promote have 3 printed teams as usual PLUS 6 more as soon as this summer 😲

Do you not understand the basic tenets of the game and how it's structured?

Are you being serious Fatcat ? They’re attempting to elevate themselves to a palace in the sky and be untouchable . What about the joy we all held for Leicester when they won the league ? They ( a nuisance ) like everyone else are discarded and left to eat crumbs and what for ? MONEY .

Their little money love in will be like watching the Harlem Globetrotters with 4 quarters for adverts and each player with his own sponsorship and helicopter landing on the pitch pre kick off , It’ll be just as stale and boring as watching the super bowl .
They’ll try and get back and we should tell them to f**k off

ps build yourself a mega stadium and you’re in , just look at Spurs and their pathetic trophy cabinet over the last 30 years

£300 million head start on every other team for starters...

I'd fully expect those clubs who put staff on furlough to pay back the public who funded it it in the first place.

Cough Liverpool Cough

As in all walks if life tye people untied hold the power. If millions of people said they will Boycott any company that sponsors these clubs then the alarm bells would ring.

It devalues the premier league. Do you think Man Utd will rest players for the premier league or the European super league.

one of these side could be relegated, but they would still be in the ESL.

it only allows 20 teams. The champions league isn’t viable, therefore less money for all teams in Europe.

it competes with the advertising income for the champions league if it does continue

they need bigger squads to cope we the level of fixtures, they swallow up more talent than they already do, therefore all squads in all leagues become weaker due to knock of effect

That’s just off the top of my head, I could go on. I think you are playing devil advocate as you are the first person who is FOR/NEUTRAL I’ve seen

totally against it, nothing to add to what has been said. i would imagine 3-4 of these 6 forced the premier league's hand over the newcastle takeover as they know that they would have the money to complete at the very top if it goes through. its getting ridiculous now

They would have to hope the Premier League changes its rules because as it stands all Premier League clubs signed a contract that states they are only allowed to play in certain competitions if they want to compete in the Premier League. From what we have seen today the Premier League are dead against it.

The worry thing is 9.6 only means they need to sanction it. Their latest statement worries me that they might actually sanction it

I really couldn't care less if they all go, my interest in football beyond Boro has seriously diminished during the past few years, exasperated by the lockdown.

As we've seen this year the game as us older fans knew at as a spectacle is nothing without fans....yes you can say you are playing an FA Cup Final, but in an empty Wembley, it's very little better than when I used to play a Cup Final in my back garden.

Incidentally given Man U Man C Liverpool Chelsea Arsenal are the Top 5 who would be your 6th Club?
My point been why do Spurs have to consider themselves one of the top 6 of the PL, have they actually won the PL, no,

Leicester would & should be considered before them, though as its down to one thing only, money, then let's not name em top 6, as if its the cream, let's call em the richest 6, because that's what it is
