European Super League to be announced tonight - 9:30pm

You've got to be incredibly cynical to think that the collapse of a Super League within 48 hours of announcement is proof that fans don't matter and a Super League will happen.

They might not be punished in the league, but they're not going to get off the hook with no issues.
Like what?, they're untouchable now

The last 48 hours have shown what can be achieved if we all put our cultural and political differences to one side, know that something isn't perfect, but work together in search of a solution that benefits a wider community and purpose. Like a political and commercial union or something
It's a pity we keep voting for a party who's whole ideology is in line with what these 6 clubs tried to do.
If we could apply the same solidarity in dare I say it more important aspects if life we could have a fairer society that works for all

Like what?, they're untouchable now

How is coming back humiliated after massive pressure, failing with their biggest trump card, a sign that they're untouchable?

The indication from the government is that there will be consequences with their review and you'd hope that would include fan consent becoming enshrined in law.

They're apparently being removed from many of the league committees too, so their influence will be reduced.
Add to that they've demolished all trust in them.

Exactly and what is it the fans have achieved, small protests outside the grounds have not destroyed the super league. Comments from the likes of Pep and Henderson helped, but if fan power stopped it, why has twenty is plenty not been implemented, why do we still have to subscribe to at least 3 broadcasting platforms to watch football, why did the Boro game kick off at 6.00pm yesterday. I am cynical and more cynical than I have ever been and it will revolves around the hypocrisy of Sky and their 72 hour attack on a super league that in real terms would only effect a small handful of professional clubs. Why can't we have a Gary Neville style rant on why we pay more than any other country in Europe to watch our football and Sky back him up with a promise to withhold any broadcasting payments to any club the refuses to accept the twenty is plenty initiative? Why don't Sky tell the so called big 6 we won't be showing you live for the next 3 seasons as punishment and see how that effects their overseas sponsorship deals. Sky have as much power as the PL in this day and age and they are showing the world that the big 6 belong to them and not some upstart broadcaster.

Untouchable, as in nothing will be done to them, everything will revert back to normal as if theyre the good guys, they dont care who they've upset, or angered

I really hope youre right & something is done, personally I was hoping they would have gone through with it, but because they most likely realised they couldn't have their cake & eat it they come crawling back & then issued an 'oh we're back everythings ok now' statement

absolutely, these are greedy billionaire free market economists, laying waste to anything they can in the search for more money and power. It's no different to the people behind the Tory party. For survival of the football pyramid see the survival of the NHS, for 6 super clubs and scraps for everyone else see the big supermarkets and retailers making small retailers uncompetitive, for Sky see the media and PR behind capitalism, for the theft of talent from lower league clubs and moving it to the elite clubs see the removal of social services to the people. It's all there, it's all the same. Football exactly the place where socialism should be rife but seems to be replaced with people lending their vote to Tories. It's no accident either, football messageboards are often infiltrated by Tory stooges, and we've seen them on here.

Can we keep this thread free of political chat and tory bashing comments etc please?

Nearly every single thread turns into politics. It's boring. Not everyone wants to read about it.

Plenty of other threads to discuss that matter. Or god forbid, create yet another thread.

It's difficult to argue against this to be fair.

Sky are massive hypocrites.

I think Carragher even mentioned it on MNF and questioned whether they and himself are hypocrites over this matter.

I do think the ESL would've taken it to the extreme with greed, but Sky are no saints by any stretch.

sorry mate, but there is a clear analogy between the greed of wealthy business owners in football and the greed of wealthy business owners in general.

I see Alaba at Bayern is rumoured to signing for Real Madrid in the summer.

400k a week over 5 years!

No wonder their debt is horrendous.

"The Premier League is set to change its rules to ensure that no member club will ever be able to join a breakaway European league again without facing instant expulsion.

A governance review already being carried out by the Premier League’s chief executive Richard Masters, in conjunction with the FA, will now focus specifically on ending any such future threat as part of the changes

This will kill off the threat of English clubs joining a European Super League for ever,” said a source with knowledge of the developments.

Under the Premier League’s existing rule L9 there is a list of other competitions that member clubs are permitted to play in, but the new rule will end any possible ambiguities around new competitions outside the existing football structures. The new rule is expected to set out in black and white that joining any breakaway league will lead to immediate expulsion."
