European Super League to be announced tonight - 9:30pm

So again these teams don`t even consult the League or the footballing body they are apart of.

That should prove to one and all that they have no respect for the game or the fans and those that set the foundations of the game many years ago.

Penalise them all now to the point where they will gain no honours or the chance to play European football next season.

Then at the end of the season boot them all out of the League, UEFA Cup and the Champions League.

Use next season as a reset of the League formats and European Competition.

I really couldn't care less if they all go, my interest in football beyond Boro has seriously diminished during the past few years, exasperated by the lockdown.

As we've seen this year the game as us older fans knew at as a spectacle is nothing without fans....yes you can say you are playing an FA Cup Final, but in an empty Wembley, it's very little better than when I used to play a Cup Final in my back garden.
I hope they go & as the saying goes, I'll buy a coach & drive em all there myself 👍

My point been why do Spurs have to consider themselves one of the top 6 of the PL, have they actually won the PL, no,

Leicester would & should be considered before them, though as its down to one thing only, money, then let's not name em top 6, as if its the cream, let's call em the richest 6, because that's what it is
Yep Richest six indeed

Just like it was back in 92

Winning the PL isn’t the sole measure otherwise you could bring Blackburn into the equation. Top 6 richest 6 call it what you want I don’t get hung up about who in particular is involved. Just hope they are given a suitable punishment.

Yep agree with that, let em all go

On reflection it’d be great seeing Liverpool at the party . I’d imagine Real would crave to travel to murky Anfield and get it’s windows smashed in again on a cold frosty January Wednesday night . How appetising

What I don't get is how the likes of Barcelona with massive income can still have a debt of approximately £1 billion. The big clubs have themselves to blame. The club game has never had it so good with income from TV yet all that extra money has gone solely to players, executives and agents.

There's more to come from this story and the "Super League" potentially a subterfuge to allow the clubs mentioned more control on how the European game is organised. This happened fairly recently in rugby union. The English and French clubs threatened to go it alone if the old Heineken Cup format wasn't changed. They got their way.

If their clubs are kicked out of all official competitions, assume this would mean their registrations become null and void and so they could move anywhere on a free transfer? (albeit would mean giving up their lucrative contracts).
what's the point in earning 300k/week a week but not being able to go for a meal without being constantly abused, when you can earn 150k/week and go for your meal being patted on the back.

I must me missing the point here - why is this such a bad thing - it’s a midweek thing and will just replace the champions league or is it more than that?
It seems the people / organisations getting upset are upset just because they won’t be lining their pockets? Seeing the threats bandied around already is normally a good sign that it’s all about money.

can someone explain why this is such a bad thing?
sniffs, swims away

It devalues the premier league. Do you think Man Utd will rest players for the premier league or the European super league.

one of these side could be relegated, but they would still be in the ESL.

it only allows 20 teams. The champions league isn’t viable, therefore less money for all teams in Europe.

it competes with the advertising income for the champions league if it does continue

they need bigger squads to cope we the level of fixtures, they swallow up more talent than they already do, therefore all squads in all leagues become weaker due to knock of effect

That’s just off the top of my head, I could go on. I think you are playing devil advocate as you are the first person who is FOR/NEUTRAL I’ve seen
Maybe I need to read more about it - in my mind it was just a replacement for the champions league.
Reading the comments it seems that it is bad for football though though I’m not so sure the reaction by some of the governing bodies is more to do with money being taken from their pockets.

This is all about creating a closed shop with guaranteed income, the likes of Leicester and West Ham challenging for Top 4 is costing them hundreds of millions of pounds.

They want to remove the competition.

For me - withhold their prize money, deduct points from them and strip them of their titles. This needs stamping out.
absolutely, relegate them immediately. IF they continue with the league next year relegate a further league and continue every season.

There must be no bargaining, no backwards steps, no meeting the 'big 6' demands. Not one instance of backing down or this will never end

It will be interesting to see if / when it starts getting serious & close to actually happening & if some of the players involved from these clubs realise what the true implications are to their careers, will they voice their concerns & ask for a transfer, or realise they'll have more money then they'll ever have, even though they do now

Yes you need to grasp the fact that it’s an alternative European competition to the CL not a replacement. Furthermore said teams would qualify for it every season even if they finished 17th in their domestic league. Oh and keep all the big money exclusively for themselves in their stinking new club.
