European Super League to be announced tonight - 9:30pm

So it's official, its going ahead as soon as practically possible

Founding clubs will receive £3.5 billion to commit to it
3.5bill between, not each. It's less than 300mill each and if they are banned from the prem and champs league next season, then most of that will be lost. Then thir is the loss of advertising revenue, because sure as **** advertising on these clubs is a sure fire way of losing customers.

Man City were playing in the English Third division in 1998 - you would think they understand about what football dreams are about.

Now all clubs are equal but some are much more equal than others with the formation of the new European Super "snouts in the trough" League.
The fans do, it's the billionaire arabic owners that haven't got a clue

They're taking a huge gamble on revenue from Asia. They'll lose membership of their domestic leagues and competitions. Their 'fans' are used to regular success but, by definition, most of them will be unsuccessful in this new league. I don't think they'll hold on to their fans. Nobody watches a Harlem Globetrotters game to support the Washington Generals, especially if they're kicking off at 4 am for the Chinese market.

Exactly there can only be one winner and oh yes one lose yes Liverpool spurs man I etc one of you will come last in this new utopia.

I'll be interested to see some players comments from those clubs. The idea they can never play for their country again and be absolutely hated if they support the move to the european league by the fans in their own city.

They'll be counting on not being kicked out. They'll now take a divide and conquer approach.
Also Tottenham's fans aren't used to regular success. That's why they've been invited. They need someone to finish bottom.

having seen the number of fans from each of these 'big' clubs that are incensed I think they are gonna struggle to divide and conquer. Other club owners will see the opportunity to actually have some success. Championship teams will see the Premier League as maybe not as financially lucrative but a lot closer.

These foreign owners have grossly underestimated how much hate there will be for this.

They would have to hope the Premier League changes its rules because as it stands all Premier League clubs signed a contract that states they are only allowed to play in certain competitions if they want to compete in the Premier League. From what we have seen today the Premier League are dead against it.

The "joint statement" released by uefa says

"As previously announced by FIFA and the six Confederations, the clubs concerned will be banned from playing in any other competition at domestic, European or world level, and their players could be denied the opportunity to represent their national teams"

So the international confederations are saying they'll be banned from the premier League, but says they *might* be denied the opportunity to represent their national teams.

The premier League in their statement offer a vague condemnation but make no reference to banning them from the league.

FIFA aren't going to have a world cup without their best players.
The premier League aren't going to want to lose their biggest teams.

The one with the most to lose is uefa.

problem is-- one thing COVID has kind of proved at least in the short term-- the big clubs don't need the fans.
Even before Covid the percentage of income through the gate of PL clubs was only around 13%. They decided to put things in place to stick fingers up to fans years ago and now they feel empowered to do so.

If their clubs are kicked out of all official competitions, assume this would mean their registrations become null and void and so they could move anywhere on a free transfer? (albeit would mean giving up their lucrative contracts).
